What Happened to Sandra Bland: More Than a Hash-tag As the buzz begins to build surrounding the death of a beautiful and vibrant young 28-year-old black woman from Illinois, Sandra Bland, it is important that blacks take the time to examine their mindset and approach to confronting the suspicious circumstances behind her death. According to an article by ABC Channel 7 Eyewitness News in Chicago, this young lady had just completed an interview with her alma mater, Prairie View A&M, for a job position there in the Student Outreach program — a job she was awarded. There are some reports that suggest that Sandra Bland was on her way to participate in a “Black Lives Matter” event when she was pulled over. The aforementioned news article lays out the details of what happened from that point. I don’t want to spend too much time describing the details, because honestly, they make me sick to my stomach. It is the same old narrative of a black person dying in the custody of law enforcement officials. What I will say, with confidence, is that I don’t believe for one second that Sandra Bland took her own life. None of her behavior leading up to her death suggests that she was suicidal. There will be an appearance of an investigation, in which those involved will be relieved of all culpability in Sandra’s death. At the end of the day, no one will be held accountable. In the early 1900’s racism was a force to be reckoned with, but not knowing the dangers of the south, Emmett Till was unaware of his actions and the consequences. While visiting his uncle in Mississippi Emmett Till was murdered for whistling at a white woman. Not knowing the dangers of the south Emmett acted like his casual, cocky self. Emmett Till’s death is thought to be the spark of the Civil Rights Movement (Crowe). Even though everyone knew who had murdered Emmitt, the men were never put to justice or charged.
On August 28, 1955, fourteen year old Emmett Till was beaten, tortured and shot. Then with barbed wire wrapped around his neck and tied to a large fan, his body was discarded into the Tallahatchi River. What was young Emmett’s offense that brought on this heinous reaction of two grown white men? When he went into a store to buy some bubblegum he allegedly whistled at a white female store clerk, who happened to be the store owner’s wife. That is the story of the end of Emmett Till’s life. Lynchings, beatings and cross-burning had been happening in the United States for years. But it was not until this young boy suffered an appalling murder in Mississippi that the eyes of a nation were irrevocably opened to the ongoing horrors of racism in the South. It sparked the beginning of a flourish of both national and international media coverage of the Civil Rights violations in America.
The beating of Rodney King from the Los Angeles Police Department on March 3, 1991 and the Los Angeles riots resulting from the verdict of the police officers on April 29 through May 5, 1992 are events that will never be forgotten. They both evolve around one incident, but there are two sides of ethical deviance: the LAPD and the citizens involved in the L.A. riots. The incident on March 3, 1991 is an event, which the public across the nation has never witnessed. If it weren’t for the random videotaping of the beating that night, society would never know what truly happened to Rodney King. What was even more disturbing is the mentality the LAPD displayed to the public and the details of how this mentality of policing led up to this particular incident. This type of ethical deviance is something the public has not seen since the civil rights era. Little did Chief Gates, the Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department, and the LAPD know what the consequences of their actions would lead to. Moving forward in time to the verdict of those police officers being acquitted of the charges, the public sentiment spiraled into an outrage. The disbelief and shock of the citizens of Los Angeles sparked a mammoth rioting that lasted for six days. The riots led to 53 deaths and the destruction of many building. Juanita is an effective manager who spends time to learn about what personalities, strength, and incidental details her employees have. Juanita can pull out employees best skill sets and internal incentives. On the other hand, Sandra’s inconsistent behavior made Juanita confuse about her personality. As a manager, Juanita feels uncomfortable about managing Sandra’s inconsistent personalities. This may be caused by the difference in behaviors and personalities between these two individual.

Fast-forward now to Anne’s life in college. Anne is attending a small college in mississippi thanks to a basketball scholarship, and is now blossoming into the strong independent woman that she will become. Once again Anne demonstrates her extraordinary initiative and leadership as she began a boycott of the colleges food after one of her classmates had found maggots in their meal. This is one of Anne’s most important displays of civil disobedience, and foreshadows greater things to come. Anne graduates college with, again, a 4.0 GPA and is granted a scholarship to a top school in Mississippi. At Tougaloo, Anne’s new school, Anne becomes a member of the NAACP and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC).

During the past several decades, society has tried to make the Caruso family take responsibility for their crimes, but all those efforts just strengthened the family ties and political positions.
We can conclude with her analyses that the criminal justice in America is biased an even though I don’t agree with the suggestion Alexander has heard from other people that mass incarceration is a “conspiracy to put blacks back in their place” (p.5). According to Assata on May 2, 1973 she along with Zayd Malik Shakur and Sundiata Acoli were stopped by two white cops who acclaimed that they were driving with a broken tail light. The first officer (Trooper Forester) came to the car and asked to see the driver’s driving license. Soon after the officer supposedly shot Assata while she had her arms up. She then was shot in the back and left to die; once she did not die she was taken to a hospital where she was threatened and beaten. On October 6, 1987 in Pascayne, New Jersey there is a mother who is looking for her child. “Seen my girl? My baby?” That mother name is Ednetta Frye who is looking for her daughter Sybilla Frye. Three days and three nights pasted, when the fourteen year old girl was found in a fish factory by Ada Furst, a substitute teacher. Sybilla was badly bruised, bloody, hog-tied with racial words written on her body. After her mother arrived, Sybilla was sent to the hospital where she had to be examined. She also was encouraged to give an official statement about what happened to her. Ednetta said that her daughter would only talk to a female black cop. The case was assigned to Ines Iglesias a Hispanic American detective. She tried to record Sybilla’s statement but her mother did not allow it. So instead Ines wrote it down, “white cop, yellow hair, age 30, they white, they all white.”
