We tend to admire those who inspire us, we try to recreate them in the hopes that one day we could become like them. Over the years we have seen people do the improbable such as, an African-American or a person who has no experience in politics become President of the United States. Most people would agree that there are millions of people who have traits like determination, courage, or confidence that make them “successful”. After Musk sold his online business, he quickly sought out the space industry. While reading “Elon Musk and the Quest for a Fantastic Future” the author talked about Musk as a child and described how he would enjoy launching model rockets into the night sky, he would soon wonder if commercial space flight would be available during his life. Musk assumed countries would be planning on traveling to the nearest habitable planet. However, Musk became disappointed once he read no one plans on traveling to any habitable planets. Musk took it upon himself to increase the chances of commercial space flight. He quickly assimilated knowledge through reading books about space. In the present Musk started his space company SpaceX with the goal of achieving commercial space flight. With his new venture, friends and families of Musk would create compilation videos of rockets blowing up, to convince Musk that starting a space company would ultimately fail and should not consider trying. Musk redefines what it means to have courage. He had a dream and went on to trying to make it into reality with no experience. As SpaceX increased its reputation, it also increased Musk’s popularity around Silicon Valley and was eventually sought out to join Tesla Motors. During his years in college Musk gain interest in using clean energy, he would argue why using clean energy would ultimately be more efficient than fossil fuels. Musk eventually joined Tesla during the company’s first years, however, success seemed unlikely for Tesla. There were doubts in people's minds about an electric car company being successful as other car companies. Tesla began manufacturing its first vehicle while 2008 recession of the United States. People considered Tesla a failure, however, Musk still preserves, having money left over from Zip2 he invested his own money into Tesla and ultimately leading it to being one of the most successful car companies. Elon changed my outlook on perseverance, it made me realize that if you believe in something, you should plant yourself like a tree and not shift focus on anything else but your dreams.
