In one of the chapters, Shelby is walking home from a party and Jason Puckett came running up to her and was trying to walk her home. When they were walking, Shelby caught a familiar scent that was on her cat Ernie earlier in the book. That’s when Shelby realized that the stalker was Jason Puckett and he was walking right beside her. Another exciting event that happened was when Shelby tried to make a run for it when Jason was walking with her. She made it a little bit up the street but was soon knocked to the ground because Jason caught up and jumped at her feet. After that he tied her up and locked her in a shed. Near the end of the book, Shelby was smart enough to use the batteries from the Walkman and put them in the mini alarm her dad gave her. When she was under the floor boards, Shelby heard some kids coming so she turned on the alarm hoping that they would hear it and save her. The kids heard the alarm because they ran off to go and get help. There was soon a loud crash of the door being knocked to the ground. Shelby started to kick the floor boards so that they would know that she was under the floor. Some shuffling was happening above her as the table was being moved out of the way and the floor board was lifted up. The police officer reached down and helped Shelby out from under the floor board. They drove Shelby home and her family was so excited to see her. When she was inside, to her surprise, Greg was standing there relived that Shelby was ok. Her and Greg made up, said their apologies and got back

In “Marked Woman, Unmarked Men”, Deborah Tannen argues many points about how women are targeted based on their style choices, such as makeup, clothing and hair, as well as their last names, and titles they choose to take on. Tannen argues her stance when she says, “Each of the women at the conference had to make decisions about hair, clothing, makeup and accessories…. Men can choose styles that are marked, but they don 't have to… . Unlike the women, they had the option of being unmarked.” here you can clearly see that Tannen is illustrating her point by showing the difference in how men are looked at compared to women. She clearly believes that men don’t have to take their style, and lack of makeup, into consideration. In other words, this is a perfect representation of her argument in “Marked Women, Unmarked Men”

Iris Chase is the narrator and protagonist of the novel “The Blind Assassin”. She grows up in a small town in Southern Ontario with her younger sister, Laura, her father and her house maid, Reenie. Loneliness and Its Opposite, My Dangerous Desires and Beggars and Choosers collectively address gender, sex, sexuality, race, class, and bodily capacity. Loneliness and Its Opposite examines the ethics of disabled persons fulfilling their erotic desires. My Dangerous Desires discusses growing up queer, in a lower class biracial familyl. Lastly, Beggars and Choosers challenges how race, gender, and class can impact one’s reproductive choice. Each category of these books define the value of a body, and unfortunatley, in today’s world, some bodies hold a higher value than others.
Everything changed in a blink of an eye for Melinda when she attended a party over summer break. The party ended because she called the cops and no one knew why she called them. The whole thing was
...e last beating she received from Hy-Lo, a recovery from the loss of her cat, a recovery from the emotional stress of listening to her mother and brother get beaten, and eventually a recovery from a broken life. The importance of the theme of forgiveness cannot be overlooked either as she struggles to leave behind the man that stole the childhood she deserved to have. He seems warmer and dies almost immediately after she forgives him, almost as if he too needed to be forgiven in order to move on. She is able to face the future by obtaining recovery through forgiveness, forgiveness through understanding, and understanding through confronting her past. McFadden paints a vivid picture and helps us understand the impacts of an abusive past in a very real way that leaves a deep impact on the reader. Even though it's difficult to read about abuse, I thought this was a good
“He knows you have her. He knows what you’ve been doing. Put him off. Take control” (Preston273). The mysterious kidnapper Colin Brown is now a part of the search for the girl he holds captive in his basement cellar. Colin thinks that since he’s framed his co-worker for the murder of Christy that the police wont be suspicious of him. Summers boyfriend Lewis will not stop searching for her until he finds her. Lewis and Colin are in the same search group and Lewis can tell that there’s a little something off about Colin, but he’s not sure what it is yet. In this journal I will be predicting, questioning, and connecting to the characters in my novel.
The next morning at about 5:00 AM, Patsy found a ransom note on the bottom of the staircase. The note described the kidnapping of JonBenet and demanded $180,000 or JonBenet would be killed. Patsy quickly went to JonBenet’s room and, just as the note had stated, she had been kidnapped. Patsy called her husband and they then contacted the police, who arrived quickly after being called.... ... middle of paper ...
This story about Shelby being stalked by some creepy and unanimous person has been wonderful but did you ever wonder what Shelby’s situation would be like in a further developed society or a past society? Well I will tell you!
Based on a study done by Schwartz-Watts and Morgan at the American Academy of Psychology Law, they found that stalking was far more prevalent than anyone had imagined: 8% of American women and 2% of American men will be stalked in their lifetimes. That’s 1.4 million American stalking victims every year.
In the book Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson, Melinda is entering high school completely alone. She has no friends and she has no one to turn to, even the people she doesn’t know hate her. All of this is happening to Melinda because she called the cops at an end of summer party and no one even bothered to ask her why. Something terrible happened that night at the party and memories of the event terrify and haunt her. There’s something about that night that she tries to forget, something she tries to not remember. Throughout the book you see ways Melinda is coping with her trauma. In the process of it all her nightmare, Andy Evans, comes and attacks her again, but this time Melinda isn’t so quiet about it. By the end of the book, Melinda uncovers her secret that has been trapped in her thoughts. Anderson develops a theme that if something traumatic
Suicide is a very dark topic that is covered very thoroughly in this book. Hannah Baker is not able to save herself in the end, but hopefully this book can shine a light on and spread awareness to the issue of suicide, and help people know that every life is precious an every life matters substantially, and that there is hope along with people who truly care. In this journal, I predicted that Clay would help Skye, questioned why Justin and Hannah didn’t say anything, and connected Hannah Baker to Taylor
“He Has His Mother’s Eyes” is a very sad and emotional message yet so powerful. This Particular ad is meant to provoke people 's thoughts and raise awareness all around the world; certain people may not have experienced such things but that does not mean it should be ignored. Child abuse is increasing by the year, which is why there is now a series of ads created by the powerful human rights organization Amnesty International to help stop abusive acts in general.
