How are Alcohol and Tobacco More Dangerous to Public Health Than Marijuana:
The two legalized drugs; alcohol and tobacco are in the top five causes of deaths in the
United States. These two substances have caused countless amounts of deaths until this day.
There are absolutely no benefits with the consumption of alcohol or tobacco but yet is still legal everywhere in the United States. Marijuana is still illegal in forty-three out of the fifty states.
Marijuana has no causes of deaths and has a lot of health benefits but is only legal in seven out of the fifty countries in the United States. Alcohol deaths can be caused not only by health complications but also by accidents. Tobacco consumption only causes health issues and complications that lead to death. Alcohol contains some different toxins depending on what beverage you prefer. Drinking alcohol further increases the risk leading to higher rate of morbidity and mortality. Alcohol can ruin and damage your liver and can get alcohol poisoning if you consume too much (Jerjes). The substances and toxins found in alcohol can lead you to become unconscious and can lead to fatality to you or someone around you. There are hundreds of chemicals found marijuana. Marijuana has chemicals that are exclusive to the marijuana plant called cannabinoids. One of the biggest chemicals found in marijuana is THC and is used for a number of medical conditions.
Alcohol and tobacco can both lead to mortality. Smoking and drinking 15+ units/week was the riskiest behavior for all causes of death (Hart). There are many diseases that you can obtain through the consumption of alcohol or tobacco. Tobacco smoke can lead to many different kinds of cancers such as oral, lung, throat, kidney, bladder and liver.
