Being treated equal is a right all people deserve, but this right has not been given to certain people based on race, sex, or sexual orientation. Although our society has improved drastically in the past 100 years, when it comes to minorities gaining their rights there is still work to be done. African Americans have been freed from slavery and, with the help of the fourteenth and fifteenth amendment to the United States Constitution, gained their rights. After this, they were faced with discrimination and hostility. Similarly, women were viewed as beneath men, and as property to men, for a long time, but they rallied and fought to be viewed as equals with men.
