There are different signs that will tell you that someone has an addiction to drugs. Some are very noticeable others you will not really notice unless you know the person with the addiction very well or pay close attention to the person’s actions or words. These individuals devote themselves completely to certain substance that allows them to forget about their reality and leads them into a world of ecstasy, one which they are unable to reach without it. Continuously, their addiction takes over their lives and turns them into "slaves" of the substance causing their lives to fall apart and eventually leads to being homeless, in jail, or dead. However, there are other forms of addiction whether is a mild addiction and not as severe as drugs or alcohol but it still falls under its definition. Some examples of addictions that we do not notice are pornography, internet, television, eating, entertainment, and money. Most of these examples have their own negative aspects. There is nothing about addiction that is easy or clear, and although every family's experience is unique, I know some of what you are going through at this time. The thing that makes addiction so difficult is that the cure is not one that a prescription can be written or a counseling session can fix or a parent can love out of them. The cure is totally dependent upon the addict. That is the frustrating and painful part of this illness and those of us who love our addict so much, and we cannot force them to get the help we so obviously see —they need—it has to be up to them.
When it comes to an ongoing addiction, the symptoms are more severe. If an individual is addicted to something along the lines of meth or cocaine for a very long period of time, then they begin to freak out. At that point, the person addicted will attempt to do anything for that high. They will get extreme headaches, could potentially develop depression, and even worse. I thought it was going to be a easy thing to do for a homework, but little did I know how I was going to have to do it without telling my best friends and basically lie about what I was doing. The first few hours wasn’t that bad but I would have to say that having to hide the bracelet was the hardest part.
