Recommended: The abuse of welfare

Welfare in America is a social issue spiraling out of control. This issue is a national epidemic, with no solution seen in the near future. Unfortunately abuse of the system has become a norm in our society. Governmental officials acknowledge the issue, but lack the effort to make major ramifications. Taxpaying citizens now reap the heavy burden of incompetent political officials and major abuse of the system.
I do acknowledge the issues of our society and understand the need of a welfare system within our government. Poverty is a rotating door in this day and age. One day you could be eating high off the hog, the next be in desperate need. Many factors play into economics. One day you could be financially stable and the next your employer is claiming bankruptcy. This is a problem seen way too frequently in this day and age. However, these are not valid excuses to abuse the assistance the government has to offer. …show more content…

The poor will continue to be poor while the rich continue being rich. Sipping on champagne and enjoying caviar is not a luxury enjoyed by all. The only rational answer to this is to work hard for prosperity. So many today in America feel they should be compensated for not working, but yet they will not even make the effort to find a job. You give an inch, they take a mile. Obviously this does not apply to all of the less fortunate, but a vast majority. Have you ever been patiently waiting in line at the grocery store and observe an individual wearing high end retail clothing, but then purchase their groceries with a food stamp

Also, illegal and misuse of Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) is one of the problems our Welfare System is facing today. All three are considered illegal and these type of activities need to be stopped immediately. People that are in need should be given the assistance they desperately ask for. The System should re-assure tax payers that their hard earned money is going to the right recipients and is not going into the wrong hands.
