I have taken challenging courses throughout my academic career. I have taken three AP classes and many pre-AP classes to prepare myself in life. I have taken AP US History 11, Calculus AB, and Biology over the course of my sophomore and junior year of high school. These courses helped me experience the college-level work and skills needed in order to be successful in the future. I learned that being communicative, productive, and effective helped me succeed in these courses. I devoted my time to these classes because they were year-round classes. I knew that I needed to set goals and prioritize my tasks. When I was confused about the material or upcoming due dates, I asked my teacher to clarify for me. He/she would explain it until I was no …show more content…
As an independent person, I make sure my house is in great maintenance. I have tasks to do inside and outside my house. I have to mow the lawn, clean my room, take out the trash, pick up paper in the yard, wash the dishes, etc. All these tasks help mold me into a reliable, responsible person. I cherish living on my own because I never become sick away from home. I love to travel away from my house to see new life experiences. In addition, I try not to rely on my parents for assistance when I am out of the house. When I am out of the house, I understand that I need to be respectful to others and my environment. When I am away from home, I am representing my parents, so it will make since if I treat others in a rightful manner. Ultimately, I am obedient towards authority. I always obey rules that are presented to me. I strive to be a prime example of a mature, young adult in society. Living among an enormous campus can be overwhelming for a moment, but I have the courage to abide and obey all commands to help me flourish amongst my peers. Furthermore, I have the endurance and self-control to help me overcome problems on my own. It takes a lot of commitment to devote your summer to school. As a loyal person, I will be willing to give up my summer so I can excel forward
I was taking AP World History, my first AP class. Keeping up my grades in the class was one of my biggest concerns, but surprisingly, it turned out to be a relatively laid-back class without much homework. Throughout the year, the class was mainly notes and document analysis. The only difficult part of the class was the tests. They were long and arduous with several vague questions based on specific parts of the curriculum that we had only gone over lightly. The course became more vigorous as the exam date drew closer; we began writing more essays, the tests we took grew longer, there were after school study sessions, and even a mock
Students should communicate with their counselors to select a manageable course load based on their own aptitude and interests. Certain combinations of the most difficult AP classes may be difficult to handle for all but the most brilliant students. However by making smart informed decisions, students can challenge themselves by taking appropriate AP classes.
Growing up, my parents never expected perfection but expected that I try to accomplish my best. The effort I’ve put forth in learning has been reflected in my grades throughout my high school career. I’ve entered myself in vigorous course work such as AP Government and AP English to become well prepared for my college career, all while maintaining a 4.4 grade point average this year. Not only do I engage in AP classes, but up until this year I had no study halls. I wanted my day to be packed full of interesting classes that I would enjoy learning about. My grades and choice of classes prove the effort that I put forth in my learning. Working hard now can only pay off in the future. Learning now creates a well-rounded human being. Working to learn is why I am so dedicated to my studies now.
Finally, I learned how to be more responsible by myself. In my last classes, my teachers were technically always there to tell me step by step what to do and how to do my assignments. In a certain way, it made me kind of lazy and entirely dependent of my teachers. However in this course it was not like that; instead, my instructor just gave me the assignments, instructions, and deadlines, and I must write my essays and summited it on time. This absence of guide absolutely made me to react that it was time to me to do my assignments by myself, demonstrate what I know, and ask for help just whenever it is
Since I am homeschooled, I have had a different experience than people in public school. Also, I have had more opportunities to teach myself. I am an outgoing person and I enjoy being around people. Although I would consider myself an extrovert, I also appreciate quiet time to myself. I am usually an optimistic person. I am a thinker more than a feeler. I am task oriented and work hard; I throw myself into my work. I get very involved in my school and and my projects outside of school. I like to challenge myself, whether in my coursework or personal projects.
Being a scholar is a challenge that I take on everyday. The most challenging classes I took this year will have to be AP English Language and Algebra II Honors. AP English Language is my first AP class I have taken and it was really challenging. The most challenging part about being in AP English Language was the level of expectation on your work. English has always been my hardest subject and taking this course was a big step. My essay grades were very low so I had to work extra hard in all my other work to keep my grade up. Also, I was really scared about the AP exam but Ms.Pruden really prepared us for it, I went in and used everything she taught me to try and pass the exam. Algebra II Honors will have to be the most challenging class this
Going into this course, I felt that the reading and writing skills I learned in high school were very beneficial in preparing me for an English college course. In high school, I was enrolled in GATE and AP English courses. In these classes, I was assigned several readings and was taught to actively read by doing annotations. I was to summarize the writer 's main points, to write down my own opinions, or to connect it to any personal experiences. These annotations helped me understand the writer 's message better because I was able to break down the things the writer said and only focused on the important points. Then, I was also able to form my own opinion on that topic by deciding whether I agreed or disagreed with the author’s opinion. Moreover, I used evidence from the text to support my argument.
Independence becomes the most important thing in life to those who turn eighteen or even graduates. We as people strive to get out of the house as soon as possible. Our parents sometimes think you are not ready yet and will keep you for a while, unlike some to where they kick their kids out as soon as possible. My parents do want me to stay due to the fact that they will need someone to understand this new tech that comes out every year. I will soon want my independence so I can go out there and be somebody.
The biggest challenge I ever faced personally is when I decided to taken AP Biology during my senior year of high school. One of the reasons I took this class, was that I wanted to gain a few credits before I started college. The other was that, my original plan was to take a class that have me a step into my future major, Biology. Technically the major I wanted to take was Zoology, but very few colleges, especially Farmingdale, don't have it.
I had to get a plan graded by next Tuesday. When I took AP Drawing in my Junior year, everything started to fall apart. With five other AP classes to deal with, and my naturally slow pace, I was late in turning things in, and my grades were horrid. I disliked art more throughout the year, and with every graded artwork, I felt like a
As I am in my junior year at Godinez, I have become a confident student that has the willing to enroll in some higher challenging classes, particularly in AP Chemistry, AP English Language, and AP United States History. I have applied to get three Advanced Placement classes in my junior year because I wanted to challenge myself. In taking three higher level college courses, I discovered that my weakness was in AP U.S. History because I was having trouble in remembering the specific historic events that have happened in a certain time period. I did not have the ability to remember all of the events that I have learned for a long period of time. However, the class that I am really in good strength with is AP Chemistry because I love to handle
As the end of the school year approaches I can literally and safely say that this class was by far the most rigorous and influential High School course that I have ever taken. No I haven 't had the best overall average in the class I can 't say that I still have taken away a lot and will be using a lot of the information that I have learned later on in life and especially in college. Looking back at all the literature that we read In this year alone I can safely say that we have read more than during my first three years of high school, and some students about the work load. I really did appreciate it. There were so many life lessons that were taught. Especially when we would have in class lectures. From Beowulf, to Lord of Flies, each story has
Over the course of the semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer in many ways. When I came into the class, there were skills I had that I already excelled at. During my time in class, I have come to improve on those skills even more. Before I took this class I didn’t even realise what I was good at. This is the first class where I felt I received feedback on my writing that helped me to actually review my work in see what areas I lacked in and where I succeeded. Some of the skills I had shocked me as I didn’t think I had those capabilities in me.
During this College Composition course, I came across numerous obstacles and educational involvements. Every factor of this course contributed to my overall learning experience. For starters, we often read out of our textbooks, “The Little Seagull Handbook” and “They Say I Say”. These books helped showcase proper writing techniques. In addition, we would have class discussions that everyone would participate in. This opened my eyes to different viewpoints that could influence my writing. I recall one class we had a debate over a topic and everyone had to choose a side to argue. Then when we wrote argument essays, even though they were on a different topic, it helped me view my topic in different ways. Lastly, the most helpful to my writing was peer review. We were told to read our paper out loud to our partner. Although personally I am quiet and dislike reading out loud, I found this very helpful. Instantly, my partner and I could find grammar mistakes that one may not pick up on while reading silently. Then we could also talk about other possible revisions for my paper. For every paper, we would have conferences with the professor. This was effective as well to have a professional giving corrections and ideas. When we would get back our graded rubrics on the assignments we completed, the instructor would leave comments to
Much like Benjamin Franklin believed, I feel that a person should take advantage of the time the person has in life with activities a person wants to do or needs to do. A person should not spend much time on activities the person does not want to do. Life is way too short to concern oneself with work or other activities one wants nothing to do with all the time. When possible, I try to forget about my responsibility and just let go of the ‘things’ that do not matter to me. I think a person should try to occupy oneself with something productive, worthwhile, or necessary at all times. Even though a person’s life is left up to a person to live, I cannot imagine thinking that I owe my time to society through working a job that I simply despise. I am a compassionate person, but I do not owe anyone anything regarding my time.
