Globalization is inevitable to be avoided. Josep Stiglitz, in his book Making Globalization Work suggests that there are no countries which can avoid themselves from globalization. Every country in the world with its own potential and uniqueness must be ready to involve in the globalization era. The enormous potential which can support the attempt to involve in globalization era covers natural resources, human resources, local wisdom, cultural diversity, education, industrialization etc.
In addition to the advancement in technology, transportation, and telecommunication, the more complex needs of countries in the world generates interdependence of economic and cultural activities between countries. One country might have needs which cannot be fulfilled by their own available resources. Globalization allows the exchange of resources between countries which historically had been started from Silk Road era (Lee, 1997:3-4). The exchange of products in Silk Road era even ranged from Europe to Southeast Asia. The western countries looked for spices, porcelains, and textiles to the eastern part because those things have become main needs for the people in the West. While the eastern countries needed to build relationship to other countries as a strategy to fulfill local needs and to strengthen their existence. This basic framework of globalization has been growing until the recent year.
Southeast Asian countries have been taking part in exchanging resources since Silk Road era. Indira says that in the modern era, the countries realized that they must cooperate to develop regional economy, culture, and other issues in the region.
