The Coptic Orthodox Church was established by St. Mark the Evangelist in the city of Alexandria in the name of Lord Jesus Christ. It was created around 43 A.D., making it one of the earliest religions. The word “Coptic” comes from the Greek word “Aigyptos” which means Egyptian (suscopts.org). The Coptic Orthodox Church is the main Christian Church in Egypt, where there is between six to eleven million members in the church (bbc.co.uk/religion). Even though most Copts, as they are sometimes called, live in Egypt, there is about a million members outside of Egypt. The USA is home to over one hundred Coptic churches, and the United Kingdom has a cathedral. The Coptic Church has also been the subject of many prophecies in the Old Testament (coptic.net). In their religion, they believe that the Holy Trinity: God The Father, God The Son, and God the Holy Spirit, are all equal to each other in one unity. They also believe that Lord Jesus Christ is the only Savior of the world. Fewer changes of rituals and doctrine aspects have taken place in the Coptic Church than in any other church (suscopts.org).
The Coptic Orthodox Church was founded by St. Mark the Evangelist in the city of Alexandria, as I said before. St. Mark is one of the four Evangelists, which means he was an author of the canonical Christian Gospels in the New Testament. He was regarded by the Coptic hierarchy as the first of their unbroken 118 patriarchs (coptic.net). He was also the first of a large group of Egyptian martyrs or the first of a person who suffers persecution and death because of a religious belief. St. Marks was a very broad-minded Apostle, who preached in many different countries and who established the School of Alexandria. The Pope of the Coptic Orthodox ...

... the Sabbath, which is Sunday for them. Added to all of those feasts, they still celebrate all of the other main Christian holidays. Some of those holidays are just celebrated on different days then normal, such as Christmas being celebrated on January 7th. This happens because of their extremely old calendar that they use.
As you can see, the Coptic Orthodox Church is a very old sect of Christianity that still has many rituals and celebrations that make it unique. This is because it hasn’t changed very much at all, since it was created. It is a very traditional religion that still has seven sacraments that are used in many religions today. People stay very true to all of their beliefs and practices as they are very proud of their religion and all of the things that it means to them. I found that the Coptic Orthodox Church was a very interesting religion to study.
Catholics believe that Jesus founded the Catholic Church in 33 AD. Since then there have been many different forms of interpretation of the message. Although there were many forms of Christianity it was eventually standardized and given validity in 380 AD, by the Roman Emperor Constantine. At this this time in history, Roman Catholicism became the official religion of the Roman Empire.
shows that they also thought of the Sabbath as a day of rest so they
Many Elizabethan holidays were related to their church, so Elizabethans attended church every Sunday so that they would be aware of which holidays and festivals were coming up. The Elizabethan Christian holidays are the Twelfth Night and Swithin’s Day. The Twelfth Night is celebrated on January fifth and this holiday marks the twelfth and final night of the Christmas season. During this holiday there are many festivals and feasts celebrating this religious holiday, on this night the Wise Men, or Magi following the birth of Jesus, come and visited them. Swithin’s Day is celebrated on July fifteenth, and celebrated Saint Within, a legendary bishop. When Saint Swithin’s died his bones were messed with, causing it to rain for forty days. Elizabethans used this holiday to predict weather outcomes for the next forty days.

Christianity is a unified religion that took full commitment and faith in early Rome. Christianity Rose during the first century after christ 's death and its rise came from the help of the apostles. Apostles are early christian teachers who taught the message of christ as well as how to reach god through worship. They first taught the early roman christians to accept christ as their lord and savior not the emperor. Pliny, a lawyer author and magistrate in ancient rome who lived from 61 to 113 c, wrote letters to an emperor named trajan about the average sunday worship of a christian. , He writes, “ That they were wont, on a stated day, to meet together before it was light, and to sing a hymn to Christ, as to a god, alternately; and to oblige themselves by a sacrament [or oath], not to do anything that was ill: but that they would commit no theft, or pilfering, or adultery; that they would not break their promises, or deny what was deposited with them...“it was their custom to depart, and to meet again at a common but innocent meal,” The “hymn” he is talking about was connected to the bible, a physical representation of the christians denying the emperor, and in reciting an oath they separated themselves from the emperor on a divine level. When Pliny is talking the meal they eat he is explaining a traditional sunday din...
Christianity was first brought about by Jesus, who preached he was the son of God. After Jesus was hung on the cross and then resurrected one of his apostles, Paul, started the church. It first became popular in Jerusalem, and then continued to spread throughout the rest of the Middle-East, eventually reaching ...
Essentially, Christianity was developed out of the other popular religion known as Judaism. It all started with Jesus, a child who was born in a small corner within the Roman Empire, to the woman known as the Virgin Mary. The Virgin Mary is well known due to the writings of Luke and Matthew that appear in the New Testament, which is part of the Bible. He was a Jewish child that is often remembered as being called Jesus of Nazareth or simply that he is recognized as being the Son of God. Jesus didn’t become well known until he was thirty years old, which is during the time that John the Baptist baptized him and he started his ministry by teaching, healing and working miracles .
Behind the elaborate fresco paintings and splendid architecture, Eastern Orthodox Church has played a significant role in the preservation of Christian tradition throughout history. Since the transfer of the imperial capitol of the Roman Empire from Rome to Constantinople, the Eastern Orthodox Christianity has evolved into a distinct branch of Christianity (Steeves). As Timothy Ware, the author of The Orthodox Church, suggests, major intellectual, cultural, and social developments that were taking place in a different region of the Roman Empire were not entirely consistent with the evolution of Western Christianity (Ware 8). These traditions and practices of the church of Constantinople were adopted by many and still provide the basic patterns and ethos of contemporary Orthodoxy. The Eastern Orthodox Church has adopted unique organizational features, beliefs, and traditions constituting itself as a unique branch of Christianity.
They believe in one god and have most of their laws made by him. They believe all humans are equal and that they should live moral lives. They also follow the bible. That’s where most of Christianity is located, and that’s the most resourceful thing about it. Everybody is born with worth and dignity since they were created by God. Everyone has the right to choose between doing good and doing wrong. Every person has the responsibility to help others in need and the community.
Although the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church ultimately had more differences which ended up causing their split, they once had quite a few a similarities. The churches shared “many of the same prayers and liturgies” (“Eastern Orthodox”, 2001 para.1). Both the Eastern and Western churches had a difference in opinion in defining and numbering sacraments but they did agree on what the seven major sacraments for their churches should be. They also agreed upon that the male clergy should consist of bishops, priests, and deacons.
In the universal church, there were primarily five bishops in each of the primary Christian cities in the empire: Alexandria, Antioc...
Christianity is a faith based on the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (Fisher, 1991) Christianity is a one God religion as presented in the New Testament. Today, Christianity and the church are culturally diverse, even in the aspects of race. It is even said that Sunday mornings is the most segregated time in the world. There is one central belief that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, all Christians can come to this conclusion. Christianity teaches that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins and that we are all under the judgment of God because we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Other religions may often depict that it is only necessary to do some good when it comes to God in order to get into heaven. However, Christianity is the only religion that supports the teachings of salvation by grace. Meaning that our efforts, sincerity, and good works alone will not guarantee us a place in heaven, but instead it is our faith in what Christ did on the cross along with obeying the gospel, and living faithfully until his return that will place us there. Followers of Jesus Christ were persecuted, but by 380 CE, despite strong opposition, Christianity became the official religion of the vast Roman Empire (Fisher, 1991) At least three things can derive from Christianity; a set of beliefs, the way of life and a community of people. Christ is the Greek form of the Hebrew word "Messiah", meaning "anointed one". Christianity originally developed as a part of Judaism. Jesus was a Jew. It is said that he lived from about 3 BC to 30 AD. He lived and taught in Palestine, to the Jews. Christianity also teaches that God created the universe and all that is in it. While we as humans have both physi...
...after death. Note the contrasting between Christian holidays and Pagan ones. Note their wavering loyalty between Almighty God and ‘the old stone gods’ that they sacrificed to and made heathen vows to when things became desolate. In conclusion, Christianity is made up of more than its own traditions and, back then, the transition sometimes faltered. Sometimes, people would fall back to what they knew before: Paganism.
Christianity’s history is filled with division, controversy, and conflict. One of the most important people who contributed to the lasting success of this diverse religion was Constantine. While legalizing Christianity in Roman society, he founded the capital of the eastern Roman Empire, Constantinople. Because of this and other great accomplishments, Constantine appropriately earned the name Constantine the Great.
Christianity is a religion based off of the teachings of Jesus Christ, known as the Son of God and “the Anointed One”. It teaches us that there is and continues to be but one divine God of our universe who died on the cross for our sins. We all, as human beings, live in a broken world where only he can save us. Through a combination of reading passages of the Bible, a collection of Christian scriptures, prayer, and worship one can reach salvation and live with him in the everlasting kingdom of heaven. Christianity is based on having a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, our savior.
