Childhood obesity has doubled since the 1970s. our thin obsessed society thinks fat people have no self control, which often isnt the case. (Moon). Being overweight can actually cause eating disorders and servere depression. Seeing thin models flaunting themselves in magazines triggers these kinds of things. Because childhood obesity is a crisis in the United States, society must implement programs to end this epidemic.
Michelle Obama, the first lady, has founded a campaign that she calls “lets move.” Rather than “lets eat less junk food”, she wants the children to learn how to keep themselves healthy. Its goals are crystal clear. Her campaign aims to improve food in schools and eliminate “food desert” areas with access to healthier foods. Michelle is asking professional and buisiness groups to do more to help kids eat better. “we parents, she said, want assurance that food companies will stop teaching kids that its good to have salty, sugary foods and snacks everyday.” ( Nestle).
Weight loss camps all around the world aim to help children, teens, and adults become healthier. Camp Shane is one of the longest running fitness and weight loss camps for kids. Recently, Camp Shane has opened a new location in Georiga. By empowering kids with the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy choices, Camp Shane has helped countless children and teens “re-shape their lives and gain the confidence they deserve.” Children at camp Shane can expect to lose weight, learn how to keep it off, and have a great time doing it. ( Teen residential treatment programs).
