Medical attention is always needed by someone and is found at a variety of places. It can be found in a hospital, clinic, school or nursing homes. Encouraging health and wellness along with providing answers to questions or concerns and taking care of physical injuries is what health science is all about. Health science is a major that has a variety of career opportunities with one in particular being physical therapy. By staying healthy and using strength training, always being aware of new career possibilities, and finding out the best places to live physical therapy can present many new career paths. Though you don’t have to stay a physical therapist your whole life, there are ways to improve or change your position. To put a twist to a physical therapist there is an opportunity to become a clinical instructor. “Clinical Instructors are licensed physical therapists with one or more years of clinical experience who volunteer to supervise students participating in the clinical education component of the curriculum” (Buccieri et al. 17). In order for students to earn their degree they must have approximately30 or more hours in an open health care field. To become a clinical instructor there is no prerequisite training. Although there is a voluntary education program that can give you tips on teaching skills, discussion, and then they assess you. States rank their physical therapists by using 7 categories. Health care experts us the following 7 categories to rank them. Well being and future livability, literacy and health literacy, employment and employment projections, business and practice friendliness, technology and innovation, APTA engagement, and compensation and cost of living. Each of these are broken down and discussed. Well being and future livability talks about “overall well being, obesity, exercise frequently, city optimism, uninsured” (Tepper 19). As well as “economic confidence, job creation, standard of living, (…) and percentage of workers employed full time at an employer” (Tepper 20). Patient literacy and health literacy refers to how these traits are both traits people want. “They reflect the ease and effectiveness with which health care providers can communicate with patients and clients” (Tepper 20). To discuss employment and their projections the US Department of Labor projected job growth while looking at the current population for each state. When looking at business and practice friendliness they looked at small business friendliness, business competitiveness, and direct access to physical therapy.
