Melissa Barthelemy was born in April of 1985. She went missing, and presumably died at age 24 in July of 2009. She grew up in Buffalo, lived with her dad in Texas for several years, and then moved back to Buffalo with her mom and younger sister in order to finish high school. She received her license in cosmetology and and worked at a Supercuts in Buffalo until she moved to the Bronx in 2007. Her mother stated that she wanted to save up enough money to open up her own salon and that she claimed she was working at a salon when she moved to the Bronx. Looking back at it now, her mother believes that Melissa’s job at the salon was just a cover-up for her actual ‘career’. While she put on the façade of an innocent girl to her parents and sister,
On June 19th of 1990, Robert Baltovich’s girlfriend Elizabeth Bain went missing. Elizabeth told her family that she was going to check the tennis schedules at her school, the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus. She never returned, but her car was eventually recovered. It was found with blood on the backseat, with forensic tests showing that it was Elizabeth’s. With no clear evidence, the “solving” of the case was completely based on eyewitness testimonies, which eventually had Robert arrested for the murder of his girlfriend.

Susan Leigh Vaughan Smith was born September 26, 1971 in Union, South Carolina to Linda and Harry Vaughan. She was born the third child in the Vaughan family, with two older brothers. Linda Vaughan divorced Harry when Susan turned 7, and five weeks later Harry committed suicide at 37 (Montaldo). Within weeks of Linda and Harry’s divorce, Linda got remarried to Beverly (Bev) Russell, a local successful businessman. Linda and the children moved from their home into Bev’s, a larger house located in an exclusive subdivision in Union, South Carolina. Susan grew to be a well-liked teenager, and even became president of her Junior Civitan Club and Friendliest Female in her senior year (Montaldo). Everyone liked her, and she put on a great show at school. But after the last bell rang, she had to look forward to seeing Bev at home, something she feared above anything else. Bev had taken to molesting Susan when she turned sixteen, and it was not long afterward that she sought help with the local Department of Social Services (Wiki). The Department of Social services did little to help Susan, only making Bev attend a few counseling sessions (Wiki). When he returned home, he chastised Susan heavily for “airing their dirty laundry in public” and continued with the molestation (Montaldo). I believe thi...
Melissa Harris-Perry analyzes the myths surrounding black women and the implication that correlate with these myths. Perry focuses on three main stereotypes of black women that began with slavery and are still prevalent in society today. Perry not only examines the depth and causes of these stereotypes, but she also scrutinizes their role in African Americans lives as citizens today. Black women today are not only separated from society outside of the African American community, but there are also existing stereotypes within the culture. Examining the history of black women, the three prominent stereotypes attached to them and comparing these to society today, it is clear that the standard for African American women is not only inaccessible but also unreasonable.
A woman taking a peaceful morning stroll in central Los Angeles with her three year-old daughter, came across what she thought was a mannequin broken in half. But as she got closer to the figure laying in the dirt face up, she realized that it wasn’t a broken mannequin, it was something far worse. It was a woman’s naked body, cut in half. Her hair was tattered, she had gashes cut into the corner of her mouth and her intestines were tucked into her buttocks. It was a very macabre scene. When the two detectives assigned to the case, Harry Hansen and Finnis Brown, arrived on the scene they lifted the woman’s fingerprints and sent them into the FBI headquarters. A match was quickly found. The dead woman lying in the vacant lot was Elizabeth Short, a beautiful, young aspiring actress. She had her whole life ahead of her, with nothing but big dreams. Who killed her and why ?
The murder of Lorraine Kelly and Mary Pryor still haunts the town of North Bergen because their disappearance was strange and rapid. This case has been closed due to the lack of evidence but was reopened again after forty years for the purpose of acquiring justice and answers to the death of both teenage girls. The last person to have seen and spoken to Mary Pryor was her sister Nancy Pryor when she was told by her sister that she would be back by eight o’ clock the latest. For the purpose of hiding her and her families’ identity, after the murder occurred she moved out of Hudson County and didn’t divulge her married name or current locality of residence because of the frantic fear that the murderer may plan an attack to her and or family. Prior to their killing both teenagers used to reside at 76st and were active hitchhikers. Both victims were found in a wooded area in Bergen County known as Montvale, and it was evident that they were beaten, sexually assaulted, and strangled by force. As a result, when the bodies were found they were in an early state of decomposition which allowed the medical examiners to see visible evidence on the body such as sperm and marks.
Melissa Duffy’s essay titled, “Inspiration” is an excellent example of how a someone’s attitude toward a certain subject influences their performance. As I read, it dawned on me that the approach our teachers take in teaching us have an immense influence on our attitude towards it. If a teacher does not give their students guidance and support, their chances of success become limited. Teachers have to implement guidance into their students in order for them to truly learn and become motivated. In my belief, Duffy tells her story of “Inspiration” in a periodical format to lie out the moments in time that shaped her as a writer. Melissa Duffy’s positive attitude towards writing stemmed from feelings of support and guidance that she had initially received from two of her high school teachers and a friend who inspired her as a writer.
Subsequently, she had another change to achieve her life in Milwards. She has dreamed about her future there, but her misfortune did not leave her. She was fired again from her work, and the assailant was another member of Birling family.
Shaping is key to Claire Frazier’s success in being able to mand. As defined in our text, Cooper, Heron, and Heward (1987), shaping is the use of differential reinforcement that promotes gradual changes in a response. If she were unable to say a specific word, shaping would be beneficial so she can properly pronounce it. For example, if Claire were unable to say, “toy”, shaping would allow her to approximate each sound in the word. We would start off by teaching her to say the “t” sound and then the “oy” sound. Both of which would be an approximation to the end goal. Afterwards, we would teach her to say both sounds together to properly pronounce, “toy.” Each word would be done on a case-by-case basis in reference to the need of shaping. Shaping will not be necessary to say certain words such as, “no”, seeing as how she is already able to pronounce it correctly.
Mary Lambert had happy family. She wasn’t always the crazy person who kills her husband just because he decided to leave her for other women. She was normal and innocent but it all changed one night. Mary was only five years old and her sister was only Nine. She had bright, beautiful , blonde curls that fell on the back like curly fry and gorgeous blue eyes that looked like they were sculpted from sapphire. Mary’s sister was also extremely beautiful with her long straight brown hair and her dark almond eyes. But Mary’s mother was not so pretty. She didn’t even looked like her daughters. How could such pretty children come from an unattractive mother? Well, obviously the girls got their beauty from their father. He was quite handsome with his

Death: it is something that has touched, or will touch, every single human being in the world. It is something that connects all living things to one another and helps humans relate experiences, and one person’s death may affect many. Through the usage visual elements such as color and symbolism along with her words, Joanna Sakellion’s “Intersecting Lives” shows how a woman’s death connected three individuals.

The teacher I choose to interview was Michelle Niinisto. Mrs. Niinisto has been teaching for 14 years. This is her first year teaching general education. She is currently an 8th grade language arts and social studies teacher at Hyre Community Learning Center. Before this year she taught special education, with a focus on deaf and hard of hearing. She spent about 4 years teaching second and third grade deaf special education. She had explained to me since the questions I was going to ask her were mostly about phonics, that she would have to go back to her elementary teacher days. She explained to me that really once they get past 3rd grade, general education teachers don’t tend to focus on phonic. She said they did a little bit of phonics in
