One of the great inventions of the 80’s, the World Wide Web, was created in 1989. This allowed anyone with access to a computer to search for information on any topic they could imagine.
As for the fashion of the 80’s, there seemed to be an ‘anything goes’ attitude. Fashion went from preppy to punk and everything in between. Neon and spandex were extremely popular. Neon could be worn as a full outfit or just an accessory to add to or complete your outfit. While neon wasn’t easy to pull off, there were many ways to utilize the bright colors.

There were also very high profile designers such as Italian designer Giorgio Armani. Armani suits were high fashion suits and were the choice for the wealthy. Big hair was also popular in the 80’s, most girls got perms and teased their hair.
They definitely made a statement and stood out, although they were highly flammable.
The network MTV was launched on August 1st, 1981. The first video to be aired on cable was “Video Killed the Radio Star.” Teens and adults alike loved to watch the music videos of their favorite artists and looked to the artists as their fashion guides. Guys and girls alike loved to copy the cutting edge fashion shown in the videos. MTV showcased many talented artists such as Madonna and Michael Jackson. Madonna had an enormous influence on the way girls dressed.
