“Government’s first duty is to protect the people, not run their lives” is what Ronald Reagon, the 40th president of the United States of America had stated during a rousing speech in support for presidential candidacy, for the fellow citizens of America to assure people of their well-deserved free lives. If a government is established to provide freedom for the citizens, then what would a government working against its citizen’s look like? How would corruption take place? How would negligence look like? Would it lead to failure in terms of society’s demands? The answer is yes, and even wrongful convicted actions. Likewise, the news article “No charges, no trial, but presumed guilty” depicts a society in which government control is unlimited and controls every aspect of citizen’s lives along with non-accessible laws and corrupt government officials who are reported as “abusive” for the citizens of Jordan in Saudi Arabia. Similarly, to the film Brazil directed by Terry Gilliam, The Ministry of Information (Ministry of Truth in 1984), does not permit fair trials and presumes the accused not guilty of arrest. Dilemmas portrayed in the governments of these dystopian societies have also altered the American legal System. These tactics often result in bias convictions of innocent lives. In 1984, the same aspect evolves around the idea, controlling the citizen’s lives. The Party is continuously watching it’s citizens and any form of rebellious thinking will be used against you in court. Moreover, by living in a society in which a Totalitarian government is involved, it captures the individual’s life and denies the freedom of expressing themselves. The root of the Totalitarian government evolves around Big Brother (the controller). Everyone is examined under the telescreen. At any given time you can be monitored; every step, every breath, every person you talk to, all inspected which evolves around the idea of a Totalitarian Government. Similarly to the news article, neither the evidence nor the charges laid against the defendant are disclosed. Also, all attempts by the defendants are often ignored. The news article also discusses the idea of immoral power that are depicted in criminal cases and certain tactics that are used to manipulate defendants.
