Is ambition a good thing or a bad thing? Can you succeed without ambition? Ambition is a strong desire to do or to achieve a goal or something that is important to you. In Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” the main character uses ambition to make himself king but it also pushed him to do something that he wasn’t sure was the right thing to do. Sometime's ambition can be viewed to be more as a negative trait than positive. Ambition is a positive trait and it motivates you to achieve your goals, without ambition this would probably not get accomplished. It is the ambition that drives an individual to accomplish their goals, ambition is a much more positive trait than negative without it nothing positive would ever get done. “Ambition is a major driver for personal growth and …show more content…
Ambition can help you lose all of your consistent habits and it pushes you to do everything that you want to change which can make you happier overall. “...if you’re a lazy, sloppy drunk and then you decide to start doing something with your life, maybe you decide to become the mailman or you decide to be a banker or deliver groceries to elders, that’s a good thing, the ambition is working for you”(Gale). This claim shows how you can use ambition to change almost anything, ambition pushes you to do/be anything you want. As long as you use the right amount of ambition, Ambition doesn’t take time away from your loved ones or the other important things.“You want to work for Greenpeace, you want to support your wife and children, you want to travel to Africa, you want to buy yourself your first real car, you want to clean the house, you want to start combining your hair and brushing your teeth, you want to be the kind of decent person that someone would invite over to their house for the weekend.” If you use your ambition to do good things with your family, then you're using the ambition in the right
Since the summer of my senior year in high school, I was confused about the meaning of learning. What do I want to learn, and what could I do with my bachelor degree? So far, it has been two years. I still could not tell the answer to the first question, but, progressively, I know that I could do nothing with my bachelor degree and even with the higher degrees. On the other hand, the knowledge I learned so far is the thing I could rely. However, in some people’s points of view, this is unpractical. For such a long time, I have found few individuals sharing the similar ideas with me. Once, I saw a celebrity, who graduated from Tsinghua University, having a show online. He said that he was extremely disappointed when a college student, who also studies at Tsinghua University, ask him about whether he should take the examination of the public servant or not. From his point of view, as a part of Tsinghua University, one of the best universities in China, how could such a smart student is satisfied with basic needs, rather than cultivating himself. According to my experience, there are lots of people around me are pursuing material benefits. Self-cultivation, thus, is less important.
Throughout history, motivation has been one of the components to survival. Motivation is needed to get up in the morning and go on about the day in order to survive. As humans began to evolve, so did society, which meant our drive and motivation were derived from different goals rather than one common one. Rather than depending on biological drive, humans started to depend on the system of rewarding the good behavior and punishing the bad. This operating is known as Motivation 2.0 (Pink, 2009). However, this method is flawed due to the fact that this implies that humans are no different from a herd of livestock.
... should always lead them in the correct direction, so that later on in life there are not regrets. The actions will make him/her feel successful or unsuccessful. Victor Frankenstein said after reaching his ambition, "but now that I have finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my hear"(Shelley,233). This is exactly the way a person will feel if inappropriate actions are taken. The ambition people have should always have positive results.
Motivation is defined as the process that guides, initiates, and maintains goal orientated behavior and thought (Cherry, 2013). Motivation is what drives individuals to do what they do, whether it is something as simple as getting a drink because he or she are thirsty or something as big as getting up every day and gong to work for a paycheck.
After doing the developmental plan of my personal goal, I felt that this was an eye opener for me. I always have a plan just like a bucket list, but went I started writing out each topic of my personal goals and thought everything out it gave me a clear vision of what my goal really meant to me. It's going to take a lot of hard work and dedication to finish my goal. The strategies that need to be used according to the Walden University vision and mission statement you have to know your mission in becoming a mental health counselor and what how far you are willing to go. Walden University mission and vision (2015), next you have to keep up with class knowing classes you are taking and when do you have to start planning
My philosophy of success, is me growing into the person I want to become and being comfortable with the choices I decide to make in life. Success is not something I can achieve overnight, it’s something I must plan for then proceed to working hard for it as well. Without hard work, there isn’t anything successful about the job I want to get done or the job I wish to get done. Doing anything without hard work and dedication, and expecting the best outcome is not success; it’s mediocrity. Being mediocre/ will only allow me or anyone else to have a ‘Victim’s Mindset.’
Determination is a quality that makes a person continue to try, to do, or to achieve something that is difficult. It is a person’s overall drive to never give up and continue striving towards a desired goal. If I was asked to describe myself in one word, I would choose determined. Throughout my life I have had many experiences where my determination has helped me fight through tough times. By having this quality it has helped me to win a girls bowling IHSA state title, be an all-state athlete, and also continue my goals for my education. Determination is important to me because I need it to achieve my goals and reach my highest potential. Determination starts with the decision to go for the goal and to make the commitment to attain the goal. Determination is also the continuous driving force to overcome the obstacles on the way to the destination. It focuses the mind on the end result. It strengthens the will to carry on, to arrive at the destination.
...rn day society, illusive ambitions can be incredibly detrimental, just as they are demonstrated to be in Macbeth. Ambitions, if they are untamed, can be an impediment to free will; they can overpower your good conscience, possibly leading you into causing death and destruction. They can also corrupt one’s mental health, while practically morphing that person’s perception of reality into something demonstrably wrong and twisted. Finally, they can boost ones ego to a point where that person is engulfed and imprisoned in the vehemence of their own denial, which can ultimately bear fatal consequences. If one’s hopes and desires are innately destructive, then it logically follows that that one’s ambition is also innately destructive; be wary of one with an immense ambition.

Too many times in history has the government thrown aside the rights of the individual in the pursuit of their own agenda. This subsequently often led to their downfall as well. This happens far too often, even in our modern world. You would think that by now, despite all of the horrible things that came about as a result of these instances, we would have learned our lesson. But we still haven’t been able to get the message. Why? Because the power of greed is far more powerful than that of humanity. This has been visible since the dawn of man. Even though humans have a natural desire to care for one another, greed still conquers all, and that’s the sad truth of the matter. Unfortunately, governments take the greedy road far too often than they should. They get caught up in the moment and forget about what it’s all really about, which is fulfilling their side of the mutualistic relationship between them and the people. The one thing that we have in common is also the most overlooked.
Motivation is a common term used in everyday life. According to Kendra Cherry, motivation is ‘the process that initiates, guides and maintains goal-oriented behaviours’ (Cherry, 2013). Motivation may affect our behaviour, choices and attitudes. How a person approaches a situation or their decision to act upon a situation is also known as motivation (Wong, 2000). There are many theories which explain different areas of motivation; instinct, incentive, drive, humanistic and arousal. The existence of these theories of motivation will be discussed throughout this essay. How different elements of these theories can be applied to social care settings will also be explored.
In this essay, “Ambition,” by Perri klass. she talks about how when she was a freshman in college her friends believed that they would receive a Noble Prize. And so she set her goals just as high, no matter if they seemed like a dream. Klass in this essay claims that ambition is dreaming big and working hard to make your dreams come true. So she was going to have a lot of ambition to achieves what ever she was wanting. However, once she was not a freshman any more she had to be more realistic, and no what she could achieve and what she could not if she wanted a to have a family. In this essay Klass said, “You limited your ambitions and become more realistic, wiser about your potential, your abilities, the numbers of things your life can hold.”
Ambition and sacrifice are the keys to any successful enterprise, kingdom, or leadership. These two concepts come up throughout history. People who believed in Social Darwinism interpreted it as “survival of the fittest”. Economists and capitalists interpreted it as “you have to spend money to make money”. However way one interpreted it, all successful leaders had some form of ambition, and countless sacrifices. Whether or not these sacrifices can be deemed as for the people, is a different story. In the early 1900’s, China was in dire need for a successful leader, and significant changes in order to progress. The dynastic system had come to an end, and it was time for a new group to rise into leadership. This led to an infamous rivalry between the Nationalist and Communist parties.
Sometimes achieving goals can be hard for me when other things step into my path and I focus on that more than what I am trying to achieve. I have not achieved any of my goals ranging from eating healthier to learning how to play guitar. When trying to achieve the goal of eating healthier McDonalds sounded much better than healthy food. Also, trying to play the guitar was great until I just gave up because I did not see any progress. I know I could have achieved these goals if I strived harder to make these goals happen.
This is my first semester in college. Being a new college student, I was very nervous about how college life went about and how I would manage school, work, and raising my child. Thankfully, this class is required for incoming students, or else I never would have thought to take it. Throughout this semester, I have learned more about myself, what I truly value, my personality type, my multiple intelligences, my learning style, and how these are all correlated to my long- term career goal.
