Entrepreneurial Journalism: A Bangladesh perspective

Apparently, it seems that Bangladesh enjoys too much ‘Freedom of Press’ as because growing numbers of digital media ventures are being instituted day by day. It’s a good sign in perspective of commercial entrepreneurial belongings. Conversely, sometimes it hinders accuracy of information and standard of News as the new media entrepreneurs are tailored by newly introduced professionals who don’t have much experience or less savvy of digital journalism. And obviously, my concern is on later one viz the single entrepreneur, startup and small & medium scale Media enterprises.

While, in our country, journalists are working as Entrepreneurial Journalists at an alarming rate, some are bucking the trend and starting successful businesses nevertheless are not academically expressed. After all, the conceptualisation of entrepreneurial journalism is still new-fangled of its kind in the country. I had the opportunity to scan some studies and articles regarding ‘Journalism Entrepreneurship: Bangladesh’ perspective and lastly I googled the term ‘entrepreneurial journalism’ + ‘Bangladesh’ and found not a single write-up or study has been articled or carried out on the buzz issue. Consequently, I got the chance to discuss the issue with Elanie Steyn, Ph.D. Associate Professor and Journalism Area Head of Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Oklahoma. She replied I think others should be given the chance to be an Entrepreneurial Journalist. It will blow new media in Bangladesh.
In this circumstance, I recommend that National Online Mass Media Policy 2015 (NOMMP) should come forward and lawfully ensure the Freedom of Press. What I would like to suggest is to bring requisite actions in this shabby business trends without hindering the media entrepreneurship flow. Additionally, academicians should take care of focusing this in their writings and teachings as well.
Last but not least, I would like to refer Rohit Bhargava’s speech who is a trend curator, founder of the Influential Marketing Group (IMG). In his article ‘How Entrepreneurial Journalism will change our world?’ reveals that journalism entrepreneurship offers the chance to think of content creation in business terms.
