Sexual violence is when an act of touching, kissing, grouping, and etc. is committed against a person you has not given consent, and preventing sexual violence is so important because everyday there are more and more cases (“The Realities of Sexual Assault on Campus”). The increasing rates of sexual assaults on campuses have provided a fear in most students and as a community something should be done. To further aware students of ways sexual violence can be prevented is by providing real life situations through a video.
Furthermore, I believe that preventing sexual violence on campuses in very important and the proper funding should go towards raising awareness. It has been reported through the past years that 1 in 5 women are sexually assaulted in college (“10 Ways to Fight against Sexual Assault on Campus”). “The chance of a woman being sexually assaulted during college is about the same as her chance of catching the flu during an average year…” as a female, that statement is frightening (“10 Ways to Fight against Sexual Assault on Campus”). How can we learn and focus on our studies if we do not feel safe on campus? The answer is we can’t, no one can stay focused and do good in their classes if the thought of being sexually violated is lingering in their minds. You might be wondering what about males? Why would this type of video appeal to them? Well women are not the only victims; males can also be victimized. Also, if they are the predators they can see what kind of damage they cause and if they are victims they can learn about resources available on campuses.

You may be wondering why is the video the best way to get this point across? Well the scenarios make it possible to connect and the tips, resources, and ways to get help are made to seem practical and understandable.
This video will have a combination of many appeals like emotion, values, and logic. Emotion- most of the population can connect with the need to escape. Values- the tips given in the video are clear, understandable, and practical. Logic- the video gives the ration of women who get assaulted while in college, providing clear facts for the audience. With all of three od those appeals, I believe many students will be able to connect and further acknowledge the importance of preventing sexual violence on campus.
As seniors in high school are committed to colleges and getting excited for some of the best years of their lives, they are preparing for early classes, late nights and good times. These teens have been looking forward to these years that have seemed to come so fast. Of course they’re getting excited about picking their dream job and looking forward to meeting life long friends that they should be able to trust. No one thinks about or mentions the number of rapes on college campuses. If the first thing colleges mentioned was the reported rapes on their campuses, would that change the minds of kids that have had a certain college in mind? Besides the reported date rapes, what about the estimated sexual assaults that go unreported? Knowing the facts and statistics about colleges and how they handle sexual assault cases would make anyone getting ready for college think twice about how safe they’re being and who they are trusting.

Sexual assault and sexual violence has been around for as long as our history books can tell us. Rape is currently on the rise on American college campuses and it is the most common committed crime among college students today. In their time in college 1 out of every 5 women and 1 out of every 71 men will experience some form of sexual harassment as reported by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center. These numbers are growing each year and have raised a lot of concern in the administrative level of higher education institutions. In an effort to try and prevent these occurrences universities have begun to implement mandatory curriculum to educate students on the subject and have even begun to hold campus wide events and create clubs to spread awareness and show support because of the repetitive nature of this crime. Life has so many exciting events that happen, from birth to having a family and one of those events is going to college. High school students prepare everything to be accepted by their dream college. In college, there are many opportunities and excitement,. But with all happiness, there’s always a negative to coincide. A very big problem that is rampant among big college campuses is sexual assault. One in five women will be sexually assaulted while attending college and yet sixty-one percent of cases are unreported. Why is that? How come so few are heard? The reason why most on campus sexual assault cases go unheard or unreported is because the college or university has their attention focused on income rather than the well-being of their own students. This is coupled with the fact that

These are words written by a college freshman after she had been raped, but they are true for many others as well. According to the Rape Crisis Center of Medina and Summit Counties, “every two minutes someone in the US is sexually assaulted” (Get the Facts). “Girls ages 16-19 are four times more likely than the than the general population to be victims of sexual assault” (Get the Facts). These women may be described as slut, cheap, or ready for action, rather than victim, sufferer, or survivor. Rape myths encourage these demeaning terms for women and conceal the reality of rape culture. I will describe the pervasiveness of sexual assault on college campuses as well as the systems and procedures in place to address it. Power plays a role in this issue, including the powerful men on campus such as athletes and fraternity members as well as the administrators in power who regulate the punishments and actions that are taken against the perpetrators. The influence of those in power often goes overlooked in our society because it has become so intertwined with our culture.
According to an interview by Beckett Brennan with Katie Couric “95 percent of victims that were sexual assault on college campuses do not report the sexual assault” (The Case). Majority of sexual assaults that happen on a college campus, will never be reported. Colleges should have more of a responsibility when it comes to the sexual assaults on campuses. Colleges need to own up to the sexual assaults, and take responsibility for the sexual assaults. Colleges need to stop pushing sexual assaults away, and need to stand up and do something about the sexual assaults on college campuses. Although sexual assaults are an individuals responsible, colleges should also be responsible in the sexual assaults that happen on college campuses.

The faces flash by on the computer screen. The women on the screen are differents shapes, sizes, ages, and colors. However, there is one thing that all the women have in common: they have all been sexually assaulted on a college campus. More than one in five women were sexually assaulted on college campuses (Mott, Par. 1). It has been proven that programs in schools can help prevent these statistics from growing. However, more needs to be done to prevent sexual assault on educational facilities because the current programs are not fulfilling their purpose.

Sexual assault and rape on college campuses is a serious public issue. Before applying to these accredited institutions most students do not look up the school 's past records of sexual assault and rape on their campus.College campuses have failed to keep students safe the system they use has failed to protect and obtain justice for those that have been victims of sexual assault. Society plays a huge part in how young adults view sexual assault. From young age girls are told “if he’s bothering you it 's because he likes you”, and boys aren 't held accountable for their actions because “boys will be boys”. By teaching about it: Many people don’t know what to do if they have been assaulted. They also don’t want to come forward about it because a lot of victims think no one will believe them. Education about how to help someone who has faced these things is extremely low, so by teaching about the subject we can help decrease sexual assault.
