Dying to Be Beautiful

Dying to be “Beautiful” In today's world, people seem to continue to strive to meet what media calls the “perfect” body. For many people, women especially, this is becoming a very unnatural way for them to think. The perfect body is only helping the self-confidence of the one who gets the surgery. Today, the image the media is portraying, as the “perfect body image”, is fake and dangerous. One should be confident in the way they look and shouldn’t follow what the media makes people look like. There are of course, people who disagree and are completely for plastic surgery and think it is great. Just because cosmetic surgery makes people look younger and sometimes prettier, it doesn’t mean the health effects will be better. What many do not realize is that photographers and editors make the celebrities in the magazines look as flawless as they do. Those are not their real body parts, and even the models can vouch for that. It is understandable to want to be better in things in life, a new car, new house, or more money, but beauty is the exception. Many women are becoming obsessed with making their body look “the best”. Julia Roberts once said, “your face tells a story and it shouldn’t be a story about your drive to the doctor’s office. It’s unfortunate that we live in such a panicked, dysmorphic society where women do not even give themselves a chance to see what they’ll look like as older persons.” In this quote, she is saying that when one looks at someone else, it can be noticed if they have plastic surgery or not. Ashlee Simpson however has a different view. She said “I don't get bothered by people saying what they say. I'm a happy person and I'm happy with my looks. I'm not an insecure person. I believe if somebody chooses pla... ... middle of paper ... ...s walk and care for themselves,” said Ryan.” (News Medical) In conclusion, I do believe that cosmetic surgery has it’s positive effects and negative effects depending on the situation and the person. It makes people look younger and tightens the skin. The physical appearance is positive, but the health effects and costs a negative. Frequently, it can be useful for removing scars and horrible skin marks. But other than that, it is just a process of faking our natural attractiveness behind cosmetic surgery and giving in to other people's wants and going against our own self-confidence. As wonderful as this piece of semi-new medical technology may seem, plastic surgery is not all that beneficial. That is why the idea of the perfect body image has to be thrown away, and it has to be recognized that everyone is a extraordinary person no matter how good or bad they look.
