Try Something New Drugs are substances intended for use in the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of diseases and is intended to affect the structure or function of the body (Merriam). Even though these drugs are supposed to be used for medicine, many people misuse them and take them just because it makes them feel good. Drugs could be very dangerous and cause many problems if they end up in the wrong hands which could lead to overdose, medical problems, or even death. I believe that decimalizing drugs is a moral and smart idea that will have a major impact on the world. For example, if a person is stressed they rely on drugs because it makes them forget about all their worries. Once these people start using drugs, it’s hard to stop using them and they become addicted. Even though some people are just eager to try it one time, they will probably end up liking it and stick to doing it often. “My goal in life wasn’t living . . . it was getting high. Over the years, I turned to cocaine, marijuana and alcohol under a false belief it would allow me to escape my problems. It just made things worse. I kept saying to myself, I’m going to stop permanently after using one last time. It never happened.” —John (The Truth). Sending people to jail after getting caught with drugs won’t do anything for them, it won’t stop them from doing it when they get out. Offering a voluntary treatment program like Portugal did would allow these people to get the help that they knew they needed. Some people are simply just too embarrassed to go search for help on their own so when they get caught many of them will take the opportunity to participate in the program. I believe people should take drugs more seriously and be able to allow any help to people that truly need it. Since drugs are illegal, they make sure to try and keep everything a secret. If people inform the police about someone who is selling drugs they could end up angry enough to go and hurt them. Some people join these drug dealing groups because they need money and it’s an easy way to get it. Because these people need money, they do whatever it takes to get it, even if it involves killing another person. Doing drugs all the time could lead to changes in skin, health problems, and mental disabilities. Even though some people believe it would be better to stay with solving drug problems as a crime, it isn’t getting us anywhere. Majority of people aren’t afraid of going to jail, it does absolutely nothing
