The game was simply created to amuse visitors and capture their attention, Higinbothan never imagined what he had begun. According Spil Games, more than 1.2 billion people are playing video games worldwide today. The amount of video game software sold in 2012 reached $6.7 billion, showed data by the NPD Group, a market research company, who consistently ranks among the top 25 market research companies in the independent Honomichl top 50 report. But how many of these games are violent? Shown on VGChartz, a network that tracks video games and provides weekly sales, in 2012 the top three games that sold over 7 billion in unit sales that year were, Halo and Call Of duty for Xbox and PS3, violent games that involve shooting anything and everything. Video games are an update on entertainment that serve as an outlet on the player’s stress and anger, trigger a deeper thought process, and let the user escape from reality. But can they affect the way a player sees reality, isolate children, cause issues at school, and be the foundation of shootings?

Violent video games only play a small factor in mass shootings. Parents play a bigger part. Parents with a mentally ill child shouldn’t allow their child to play excessively violent games or be able to easily access firearms. Those who sell firearms should look into the people they are selling guns to. Parents should regulate the time their child spends playing video games. There are other forms of entertainment instead of handing a child and IPad such as, sports, drawing and painting, music lessons, etc. Involving a child in such activities at a young age will allow the child to not rely on video games for entertainment. Violent video games only cause violent behaviors on certain individuals, but most definitely not everyone of them.
