Diversity in healthcare is a very upcoming and important aspect in modern day practice. When the diversity increases of a country, it brings upon new challenges and aspects to be looked into and health care providers and systems must find a way to be able to deliver culturally competent services and solutions. In healthcare cultural competence can be described as, “the ability of providers and organizations to effectively deliver health care services that meet the social, cultural, and linguistic needs of patients” ("News Worldwide"). The diversity of an institution, can directly impact how well care is being received and delivered amongst their patients. When there is not cultural competence in a healthcare environment, research from the Institute of Medicine has proved that this can lead to poor patient satisfaction and increased health disparities, no matter what services are available. The first is it allows for the organization to reach their strategic goals, because it allows for the connections between diversity and population health initiatives to be met during the time of when the industry was changing. Not only can they reach their strategic goals but also have the ability to have successful decision making processes, this is because when the team is more diverse, it allows for multiple different perspectives to be heard. It allows for leaders to hear insight from situation they would have not thought about, because it is not part of their everyday routine or not something they hear every day. Another benefit for having diverse leadership is that it creates equity of care, by helping reduce health disparities in the area and allowing for patients to be comfortable and satisfied.
