Male and female officer are different in many aspects. Both physically and in some of their mental abilities. According to an article written by Sgt. Susan Grant on Nov. 6, 2007 titled “Tactical differences between male and female officers” there are many differences. Many differences like the fact that women are smaller than the average male officer so they can use cover and concealment better. Men see better in some situations, women see better in others. Women may be better at multi-tasking but, may have a problem with doing those tasks in a mediocre way as opposed to their male counterparts who may do one task at a time but do them in a high quality manner. Race: when it comes to the subject of cases of arrests when dealing with African American suspects, race was not an issue as far as arrests were concerned for male officers, (at least not within this group that was in this study) but, for the female officers within this study’s sample arrests odds increased by 14.49 during such incidences of arrest. Attitude: Also of interest was the fact that suspects with hostile behaviors or who appeared to be of a threat, were more likely to be arrested by a female officer 26.49% more than by a male officer (Herbert 1997) overall hostility is a threat to any officer but, it appears to be more so to female officers. This may be due to the fact that female officers might feel that they are more closely watched by their co-workers, superiors and the community. They may feel the need to prove that they are as competent as a male officer in their ability to command compliance from a criminal suspect.
