In this article, Shaw and Lee describe how the action of labels on being “feminine” or “masculine” affect society. Shaw and Lee describe how gender is, “the social organization of sexual difference” (124). In biology gender is what sex a person is and in culture gender is how a person should act and portray themselves. They mention how gender is what we were taught to do in our daily lives from a young age so that it can become natural(Shaw, Lee 126). They speak on the process of gender socialization that teaches us how to act and think in accordance to what sex a person is. Shaw and Lee state that many people identify themselves as being transgendered, which involves a person, “resisting the social construction of gender into two distinct, categories, masculinity and femininity and working to break down these constraining and polarized categories” ( 129). They write about how in mainstream America masculinity and femininity are described with the masculine trait being the more dominant of the two. They define how this contributes to putting a higher value of one gender over the other gender called gender ranking (Shaw, Lee 137). They also speak about how in order for femininity to be viewed that other systems of inequality also need to be looked at first(Shaw,Lee 139).
“Did you know America ranks the lowest in education but the highest in drug use? It's nice to be number one, but we can fix that. All we need to do is start the war on education. If it's anywhere near as successful as our war on drugs, in no time we'll all be hooked on phonics” -Leighann (Lord) Leighamm Lord is a comedian, but when it comes to the education of children, she takes it very seriously and it is not so much a joke to her. Children are the future, and giving them the best education available is crucial to the future. Making decisions in the educational system would not only better the future, but the children’s future. These changes of segregating classrooms, will give the children a better working environment, to improve test scores, and academic advancements. Research shows that segregating classrooms would be a great step to a successful future; however, conflicting arguments to the negative and positive impacts of segregating classrooms to consider.
Persian Gulf countries are known for having high percentages of their population represented by immigrants and Qatar is no exception. According to peoplemov.in the population of Qatar is 1,696,563 and the total amount of immigrants is 1,305,428. In percentage terms, 76.95% of the Qatari population are immigrants. These statistics are outside of the norm, as migrants make up only 3% of the world’s population (peoplemov.in.) When looking specifically at the portion of the population in the Qatari working force, immigrants make up an even bigger percentage of the population. According to Qatar census data taken in 2010 there are a total of 1,199,107 “non Qatari” employed workers located in the state of Qatar. 1,070,973 of those workers are male and 505,721 of the non Qatari workers work in the construction industry (Qatar Census 2010.) To compare this to the Qatari population, only 71,076 are employed (Qatar Census 2010.) This shows that 94.4% of the working force in Qatar are immigrants which clearly demonstrates that Qatar is a guest worker country. The Amnesty International report “The Dark Side of Migration” (2013) states the reason for this large ratio of migrant workers can partly be accredited to Qatar winning the bid to host the World Cup in 2022. Qatar has very large and perhaps over spectacular plans to create a global hub for the World Cup to take place, and has needed to hire hundreds of thousands of workers to try to complete the upcoming projects on time. Most immigrants in Qatar migrate from South Asia, and one of the top migrant native countries is Nepal whose migrant workers make up around 12.5% of the total immigrant population in Qatar (peoplemov.in.) Recently, Qatar is getting scrutiny by many media outlets as ...

According to Baporikar and Shah (2012), Oman’s HE system is well structured; however, there is a shortage of skills and knowledge among graduates due to inadequate background from basic education that has not prepared them for higher studies and work-related attitudes. ...ical development differences between genders, an increase in assessment scores, and it provides an opportunity to break down prevailing gender stereotypes in society. Therefore, schools should be separated by gender. When students are separated by gender according to their different development patterns, teachers are better able to accommodate the weaknesses and strengths of each gender thereby allowing students to strengthen their academic skills. The lack of distractions in single-gender schools provides students an opportunity to focus on academics and improve their proficiency. Allowing students to learn and develop in an environment free of the gender roles that prevail in coeducational schools, breaks down gender stereotypes that prevail in today’s society. Separating students by gender allows students to reach their full potential and lead lives of success.

In “ Separating the Sexes, Just for the Tough Years”, the author argues that separating gender in middle school has some effective benefits. The teacher tossed a Styrofoam basketball to the outstretched arms of a fifth grade boy. Catching the ball was the incentive for the boys to point out missing conventions in a paragraph. The teacher projected a paragraph on the board with omitted punctuation for the students to add. The other boys in the class watched him as he went to the board to add the missing comma and then tossed the ball back to the teacher. A few seconds later, other arms shot up in the air to point out other missing conventions (Stotsky). A simple incentive of competition for the boys made them enjoy learning and actually got them to participate in class. Although single-sex classrooms can develop stereotypes for both genders, separating boys and girls can be beneficial for the students. Single-sex classes are more effective because they raise test scores, create fewer distractions, and make kids interested in school.

Looking at the advisors perspective, it allows them to see how well the student works in that class. It is a much more challenging course and if the individual can succeed in that class, it looks good. Also, with how small the school is, it is easier to put someone where it is readily available to put them in instead of having to plan out more. If students do well in a hybrid class then of course they can continue to take that class, but that is if they do well. From personal experience, a hybrid class is too much to take on. There is not enough class time for students to grasp the information. It should be left up to the student if they want to take on a hybrid
