Cancer affects young, old, rich, poor, black, or white; it does not discriminate. Many families across the United States have been affected by colon cancer. Colon cancer patients, like Gloria Bowsher, are in the fight for their life. Gloria was diagnosed with colon cancer in September 2008, and is currently in remission. Gloria, a 78-year-old woman, has been an inspiration in numerous lives. She is a magnificent human being. Throughout her battle with cancer, she continuously fights it with faith and determination; failure is not an option. Gloria has had recent checkups and has confirmed for the second time she still is cancer free.
Cancer is an uncontrolled growth of cells that disrupt the body tissue and organs. The cells can grow and they then multiply to form tumors that invade the local tissue and sometimes scatter all over the body. As cancer progresses, it causes the body to have pale skin, pain, fatigue, and loss of appetite (Cancer and your environment). Although thousands of people struggle with colon cancer every day, it is treatable and people do survive this rollercoaster ride.
It causes colon cancer to develop in the colon or rectum; cells generally grow and split only when they are needed to keep our bodies functioning accurately. But sometimes the mechanisms that regulate cell growth stop working and cells divide out of control and form tumors, which are cancer (Colon Cancer.) Even though men are at higher risk for colon cancer, if a person’s immediate relative develops colorectal cancer younger than age 50, her or his chance of being diagnosed with colon cancer is nearly double the risk. The risk upsurges if other close relatives have or had colorectal cancer as well. Colorectal cancer typically develops gradu...

Have you ever seen commercials on television advertising allergy medications? The advertisement states that taking the medication can cause abnormal sleep patterns, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, itching, watery eyes, rashes, and headaches. A conclusion could be made that the side effects of the product would be much worse than the allergy problem. However, people still purchase the product. The lengths an average person will go in order to get a quick fix is amazing. It is this way of thinking that makes tanning beds so popular. Over the last decade, cancer causing tanning beds have given self-image issues to people across the world.

Colorectal cancer, or CRC, affects African American men and women more than Caucasians, at a rate 20% higher. This is concerning when faced with the mortality rates among African Americans, 28% higher for women and 14% higher for men than for Whites. African Americans are also more likely to be in later stages of the disease when diagnosed. There is a need to study and evaluate why these factors exist, as proper screening and early diagnosis can severely impact survival rates for CRC. One study attempts to find the solution through testing, however, this study slightly discredits itself along the way.
Individuals lying in tanning beds should consider an alternative to ensure a decrease in the chances of skin cancer and becoming addicted to the tanning bed. Tanning beds may cause you to look tan now, but the chances of skin cancer, becoming addicted, and damaging your body could potentially affect you for the rest of your life. Do not let tanning determine who you are, decide whether the benefit is worth the risk. Think before you tan.

Lung cancer makes the lives of its patients and the families. Lung cancer is one of the deadliest types of cancer and also one of the most common. The Human Genome Project is the largest scientific endeavor undertaken since the Manhattan Project, and, as with the Manhattan Project, the completion of the Human Genome Project has brought to surface many moral and ethical issues concerning the use of the knowledge gained from the project. Although genetic tests for certain diseases have been available for 15 years (Ridley, 1999), the completion of the Human Genome Project will certainly lead to an exponential increase in the number of genetic tests available. Therefore, before genetic testing becomes a routine part of a visit to a doctor's office, the two main questions at the heart of the controversy surrounding genetic testing must be addressed: When should genetic testing be used? And who should have access to the results of genetic tests? As I intend to show, genetic tests should only be used for treatable diseases, and individuals should have the freedom to decide who has access to their test results.
Indoor tanning is a controversial topic and has even been the subject of lawmakers in many states for at least the past ten years. Tanning is a symbol of “health and wealth” for many living in the developed countries and yet it is associated with one of the most deadly cancers known to human beings because of the chemical reaction the Ultra Violet (UV) rays at the cellular level. The research is clear that the use of indoor tanning beds can be dangerous and yet, there are some benefits of using indoor tanning beds. Research has also shown that exposure to UV radiation contributes to the synthesis of Vitamin D in the body, it also can positively boost mood, can heal certain types of skin disorders and may also be helpful for those suffering from fibromyalgia. The indoor tanning industry should make known the risks of using a tanning bed known before selling their use to people. Before one makes a decision to use a tanning bed she should be well informed of the risks and benefits.
Cancer is a disease that can affect many different body parts. But no matter which body part is affected, cancer always involves cells that, due to various causes, go through genetic changes such that they start to proliferate wildly. In most forms of cancer the expanding masses of cells form tumors that eventually push against and invade neighboring tissue, disrupting body systems. In the course of time they may metastasize, travel via the blood or lymph to another part of the body where they set up new colonies that in turn grow and invade tissue. Even though terminal diseases such as cancer rely on genetic factors, a healthy diet can be designed specifically for preventing disease and effectively implemented into a person's lifestyle and should therefore be utilized by everyone who wishes to decrease his or her odds of promoting cancer.

Several risk factors can be linked with the incidence of colorectal cancer. Age and hereditary factors are the most important factors on which an individual’s cannot able to manage. The probability of being affected by colorectal cancer is increases after the age of 40. More than 90% of colorectal cancer cases reported among people in the age greater than 50 and older (Fairley TL , 2006). In addition, a large number of environmental and behavioral risk factors can also contribute for the development of colorectal cancer; among these dietary factors are the major one (Fatima AH, 2009).
