Chinese New Year is one of the most important traditional holidays in China. Chinese New Year is also known as the Lunar New Year and it is the longest celebration in the Chinese calendar. Chinese New Year is very different from other New Year because it is a more traditional celebration. Chinese New Year day falls on a different day each year, unlike the regular New Year. Chinese New Year helps bring family together. It is the day where everyone stop working and everyone travel back home where all the family members come together for an annual reunion and dinner. This gathering and reunion help build family relationships and family bonding.

One of the most common dishes in China that people eat during Chinese New Year is the fish. There are three types of lucky fish. The three lucky fishes are the Crucial Carp, Chinese Mud Carp and the Catfish. All three of the fish represent luck in fortune for the family. The fish, unlike other foods, should be eaten last because the Chinese believe that the fish holds the most luck and should be saved until everything is eaten. Foods that are important and should be eaten on Chinese New Year is Chinese Dumplings, Spring Rolls, Rice Cakes, Sweet Rice Balls, Longevity noodles, tangerines, oranges, pomelos and shaddocks. However, the Chinese use its own calendar to determine the New Year day; most other people use different calendars to determine when New Year’s Day is on. In many countries, they use the Babylonian philosophies to determine the time of the New Year. New Year’s around the world all have different traditions to celebrate the holiday, unlike the Chinese, who limit themselves to a few traditions.
