The current times are filled with science fiction style technology, from Google Glass to cars that can drive and park themselves. Many people are intrigued enough to buy into the latest updated technological wonders. Cell phones are no exception, they have evolved from an emergency based communication to mini handheld computers, and the most convenient way of connecting with each other. It has become simple to text, e-mail, and yes, to even call someone at any time and from anywhere in the world. In some cases, cell phones have been called an extension of human beings, and some are considered "cell phone addicts". For the young person who has just discovered this new world lying in the palm of their hand, this is especially true. As the parent …show more content…
If a cell phone is allowed to be used in the classroom, this creates an atmosphere of distraction as well as an inability to understand how to fully concentrate on assignments. This also can lead to lack of preparedness for testing in all capacities. The long term effects could be numerous, ranging from the students failure to succeed in school, to the lack of federal funding needed for the school system, all based on low test scores. The immediate impacts are easy to identify, and add up over time. Since they are busy tending to their latest playlists and social media, students do not seem to have an understanding of the material, or clear expectations of homework assignments. They do not get all the work done that they need to do in class, causing them more work to do at home. In some cases, the work that needs to be done at home is excessive and cannot be done in one evening. This results in the student being behind in the class. These students could end up lacking the skills they need to learn to work and thrive in the classroom. These are needed skills that will advance them into college, and/or a career. It is not clear why the statement in the school policy allows cell phones at the teacher 's discretion, but it is reasonable to think that the teacher 's may be overstepping the rules as well. Any parent who monitors the cell phone activities of their child that attends this school can obviously see …show more content…
The office has a land line and all classrooms have at least one computer. If the option exists that students have cell phones in the class, but they are turned off, it is irrational to think that they would not use their phones if there were an emergency. Some may think that allowing the students to use their cell phones will help with morale, and these students will enjoy the class more if they have these freedoms. Some teachers may be tired of fighting the issue, and allow them to use their phones after in class work is done, which means that these children are not receiving a full class of instruction. Others may think that listening to music while doing in class work increases the students ' productivity. Again, the monitoring of students by their parents has shown that they are doing more than listening to music, and their productivity is down. What teenager would not access social media and send text messages in class if they could get away with
Although many district administrators are completely against students having cell phones at schools and in the classroom. Many parents and teachers can see that cell phones would be a great asset to have in their classrooms. They see that there are many possibilitys with cell phones. Educators and parents can see how cell phones can positively affect academics, help keep their children safe and allow communication between the parent and student.
As technology further advances and becomes more evident in today’s society, it creates an overlooked issue with regard to teenager’s use of cell phones. There is no arguing that cell phones can be implemented in a positive manner by making it easier for us to keep in touch with people locally, as well as around the world. However, when not used in moderation cell phones most definitely have a detrimental impact on today’s modern teens. This is not something that has suddenly evolved from nothing, as Albert Einstein predicted, “I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots” (1). Unfortunately, today is that day, technology, or more specifically cell phones have negatively affected us as humans in aspects such as: social interaction, academic ability, and physical health. This conflict is not something that should be glanced over with little thought or concern, but something that people should take into consideration because it is important that we realize that cell phones have negatively effected the way we humans think, act, and interact with each other.
In this day and age it seems like everyone from the youngest to the oldest has a cellphone. I’ve seen children as young as 5 years to adult over the age of 80 years olds using a cellphone. I believe I don’t need a cellphone. Cellphones and its accessory such as the cases can be very expensive. Don’t get me started on the monthly bill. When you first open an account, the wireless carrier claims they are giving you the best plan ever, and that the monthly rate will remain the same for a least one year. However, within a month or two you look on your bill and see that you have to pay at least $40 more than when your service started. These are the hidden fees and cost that the carrier does not tell you about when they lure you in to choosing
There is no real "problem" with cell-phones in themselves. Students just need to learn, and remember, that there is a time and a place for everything. A cell-phone should generally not be used in class, unless perhaps somebody is standing at the front of the room with a gun, or if there was some other calamity, such as: kids making bomb threats and what not - for these reasons I find it completely reasonable for a child to be permitted to be equipped with a powered "ON" cellular device. I don't know about you, but if I have kids one day who are potentially in danger, I would want to be aware of this at once.
The entire world is digitized and interconnected, there is no doubt in that, and in order to communicate with others you probably need a cell phone. A single home phone was good back in the day when there wasn’t new technology available, but now since we have gone from having a brick sized cell phone with no other capabilities other than calling, to smart watches that can basically replace your entire computer Because of the diversity of people as well as wealth, it is expected that there are phones to fit everyone’s price range, while being quality objects that function on a level similar to drastically more expensive ones. That is where the Moto G by Motorola comes in. It is a smartphone, which only costs close to 200 dollars while packing
What is the first thing that comes into your mind when you think of cellphones in schools? Is it a slacker in the back of the room texting their friend? Well, it seems like the future for this idea of phones in school involves kids using their phones as clickers, interacting with SMARTboards, etc. Cell phones can be used as a learning tool, as a safety tool to contact parents/officials, and teaches students responsibility. Cell phones should be allowed in schools.
Children, teenagers, and young adults have become so used to communicating through cellphone that they have a hard time trying to have in-person, real-life conversations. Have you ever been in a situation where you’re surround by strangers and your first instinct is to look down at your phone in hope to avoid having to talk to new people. This instinct we have to look down at our phone in uncomfortable situations is because we want to avoid have feelings of anxiety, distress, and awkwardness. Sometimes the only way for someone to escape those feeling is seeking comfort in their phone. With our culture being more technologically advanced children are getting cell phones earlier in life. Parents are beginning to give children their own cell phones as early as the age of five. When cell phones are being given to children so early they are preventing social skills from being taught because children are too caught up in technology. Face-to-face interactions are becoming more limited, it causes them to be anti-social and lose patience quickly. Cell phones allow us to have immediate access to information and it has been shown when we have to wait for something we start to get anxious. Children lose patience quickly but by exposing them to technology at early ages we will be decreasing their chances to
One reason that cell phones should be banned from classrooms is because students who use them fall into a daze of distracted learning. Classes are taught by teachers, whose goal is to give the student an educational experience, learning things they will need to apply to their later life. However, students on their cellphones are distracted from their learning and never use the lessons taught. Over 2,000 cellphone disturbances were reported in New York City in the past school year (Backstory). This means that over 2,000 people had issues with cellphones interrupting classroom discussi...
Cell phones are the epicenter of modern convenience right? Could the items that we use every day actually be hurting us in the long run? In today’s world, the answer desolately is yes. With today’s people it is all about staying up with the news and understanding the major point in our friend’s lives. It is getting so bad that people follow complete strangers and expect them to treat them as if they were just another member of the family. Not only are people developing an addiction, but they are also using it as a way to escape their own lives.
People have become so addicted to their devices that they don’t realize that they’re not cell phone users they’re being used by their phones. About 66% of parents feel that their kids are addicted to their cell phone devices. But it’s not just kids that are addicted to their devices. About 51% of parents
Today’s cell phone is the front line technology at our fingertips. Keeping this in mind the use of cell phones have become an affair when it comes to allowing teens to use them in educational environments, such as schools. One part of society supports the use of cell phones while the other part of society disapproves the use of cell phones. I personally believe that cell phones should not only be allowed in school, but cell phones should be mandatory just like a textbook. Cell phones do not only allow students to stay united with friends and family, but cell phones are also a magnificent learning system, and they boost the liable use of technology.
When was the last time someone was on their phone while talking to you? When was the last time you went a day without looking at a screen? Just like majority of the world your answer so long ago that you cannot remember. With that being said, electronics are a first world necessity that a majority of privileged people cannot live without. New and improving technologies have made their way into the hands of millions around the world in the form of tablets, smartphones, etc. These imperative objects further the world’s access to information and boosts communication through means of search engines and social media; however, when there is a good equally present is a bad. So the question left to answer is, should the world rely so heavily modern
Dangers of cell phones to the health and safety on any one individual can be supported not only in opinion but fact as well. Opinions and research vary greatly on the negative aspects of cell phone usage, although most would choose benefits over that negative. While most consumers may appreciate the convenience and mobility of cell phones, the human body will not.
I remember a classmate when I was in high school because he never talked to anybody. He spent most of his time on his cell phone or using his tablet, and he did not do well in school. He was different than my other classmates and I believe that he never felt comfortable in the classroom. Everybody knows that cell phones have changed peoples’ life dramatically. Cell phones are one of the most revolutionary advances in the last decades because they make things simpler and easier but cell phones have a strong impact on teenagers. Teenagers are in one of the most important phase in their lives because they are exploring the world and developing their capacities. I believe that cell phones have more negative than positives effects on teenagers for many reasons.
Ever since incidents such as 9/11 and Columbine, high schools have started implementing new rules regarding cellphones. Cellphones regard the attention of building managers, teachers, parents, and students. Although teachers see them as a distraction and a way to cheat, they can be quite helpful to students. School districts should permit students to use cellular devices in school for purposes of improving their education and providing themselves a sense of security.
