When cell phones were first introduced, all you could do was call others and talk for half an hour. It was like a brick and took ten hours to charge. It also cost $3995. In 2005 the first Black Berry with WiFi was released. One of the first smart phones was the Nokia N95. It had WiFi, a touchscreen and some apps. Then in 2008 the iPhone 3G was released. You could get apps, use a calculator, check calendar, take pictures, call, text, take notes and so much more. Now our phones are very light, and we can do many things with them. You can listen to music or podcast, use social media or play games. Cell phones have also changed our language. Thanks to texting, there are many abbreviations that exist. At first, you could only type 160 characters per text. This caused people to start using abbreviations to use less characters. They also began skipping punctuation. This method became very popular and is commonly used today. The 160 character limit does not exist anymore, but text speak is still very popular. Emojis have also become very popular. Emojis began in 1999 in Japan. To save character limits, they began sending pictures. They only used one character which saved a lot of space. Now, emojis are a new way of communication. Smart phones have dramatically changed the way we communicate. I know for certain that after seeing my friends during the day that when I get home I can immediately text them or snap chatting or any of the ways we communicate. I can’t imagine living in a world without being able to communicate with my friends across the room or across the globe at the click of a button. Sitting in my room I can check the news, play a game and talk to my friend in America all at the same time. The technology has advanced so much since the first iPhone. Along with other smart phones they have changed the way we communicate because we can just pick up the phone and talk to someone and you can text a question or facetime them.
