Having being in and out of hospital for a part of my teenage life I have been deeply inspired and touched by the multi professional team that cared for me during those years and I feel this experience has taught me to appreciate how much effort goes into a job with the NHS. Their inspiration, alongside my fascination with pregnancy, birth and postnatal care, developed into a goal of improving my health and returning to education in order to study to become a midwife. Midwifery offers individual care for pregnant women that differs from medical care, as the term midwife means ‘with woman’ I believe that as a midwife you can have a resounding impact on a woman’s’ life in aiding her through this period in her life. And, as the NHS Five Year Forward View also said that the review should make it easier for groups of midwives to set up their NHS-funded midwifery services, this showed me how maternity reviews and changing legislations can have a colossal impact on the midwifery profession and if I were accepted onto this course being educated on such topics and working with a range of women from different cultures, ethnicities and socio-economic backgrounds would be a huge motivation for me. Outside college I enjoy reading, I am a subscriber of the British Journal of Midwifery which keeps me updated with clinical reviews and research available to midwives. I regularly read other midwifery books and also enjoy walking, watching films and I am an avid baker. I see my friends regularly and believe it is important to have a good work/life balance and my family help me do this by supporting me in my studies to become a midwife.
