Throughout my seventeen years of life, I have had many life experiences, made commitments, achieved goals, and gained talents. I am positive that all of this will prepare me to be a flourishing college student and a successful adult. I intend to use my college education and experience to further my ability to communicate with people, participate in my community, and make leaps and bounds in the equine industry.
I challenge myself to achieve the highest of goals. Advanced courses in my high school career provided an educational opportunity unparalleled by any other. They provided a springboard for me to take control of my education and make it benefit me in every way possible. I was eager to take classes such as Advanced Placement Literature Preparation, College Composition, and Advanced Placement US History. All of these classes helped me grow as a student as well as a writer. These classes during my junior year in high school led me to seek out other educational opportunities offered by my high school. I chose to attend Rochester Community and Technical College as a full time post secondary student. This not only allowed me to expand my learning horizon, but gain interests and college credits as well. I am familiar with the setting of a college course and have held the responsibility that is demanded by college level classes.
I have challenged myself to achieve goals outside of academics as well. Beginning in September of 2013, I started working for the Minnesota based company, Caribou Coffee. I quickly became passionate for my job as a barista. My eagerness to learn extended across to my new job as I quickly mastered new skills such as cashier work and drink making. As the co-owner of my three year old quarter horse gelding and a competitor, I belong to the American Quarter Horse Association (as well as the AQHYA as a youth member), the Region 3 Affiliate of the AQHA, the National Reining Horse Association (as well as the NRHYA as a youth member), the North Central Reining Horse Association, and the Varsity Reining Club. All associations provide opportunities for me to succeed in my prospective field of applied Animal Science.
Recently, the fact that I am becoming a young adult has become a prominent one in my mind. I am making my own decisions and gaining both responsibility and independence. All of my life experiences have played a large role in the adult I will become. I am so looking forward to attending college at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls and achieving my ultimate goal of becoming a horse trainer.
It's hard for me to say where I'll be in the years to come, already my life has strayed from the path I once thought it would follow. However, that doesn't change my motivation or determination to reach and excel at my personal goals. My whole life I've endured a system that dictated what should be important to me, and while it's helped me learn the practical skills I need outside of an academic setting, I have a passion to grow further from what's expected of me, and so with much enthusiasm I look forward to attending college in which I hope to achieve more by constantly learning and expanding my personal knowledge.
Growing up, my parents never expected perfection but expected that I try to accomplish my best. The effort I’ve put forth in learning has been reflected in my grades throughout my high school career. I’ve entered myself in vigorous course work such as AP Government and AP English to become well prepared for my college career, all while maintaining a 4.4 grade point average this year. Not only do I engage in AP classes, but up until this year I had no study halls. I wanted my day to be packed full of interesting classes that I would enjoy learning about. My grades and choice of classes prove the effort that I put forth in my learning. Working hard now can only pay off in the future. Learning now creates a well-rounded human being. In today’s advancing society, knowledge has become an essential aspect to achieve a successful lifestyle. It is important that one demonstrates scholarship from the early ages to attain knowledge and understanding for the future. I like to challenge myself in my education by taking tough classes so it helps me to establish an effective work ethic that I can compliment with my career later on the road. Taking rigid classes and still maintaining an exceeding 4.0 GPA helps me to feel satisfied and pleased for my future. In my first two years at Westerville Central, I took all honors courses, which include Foundations of and American Literature and Composition, U.S and Global History, Geometry, Cell and Environmental Biology, and Honors Spanish II. Within my fifteen and a half years of living, I have experienced many heart wrenching moments that have changed who I am, so many that I stopped trying to keep count long ago. Like most teenagers, the past couple of years have been some of the most confusing, hectic years of my life. I'm at that age I'm trying to figure out who I am, as well as who I want to become. As indecisive as I am, I will more than likely change my mind a time or two, but right now at this very moment, I've finally come to terms with who I really am, and what I would like to do for the rest of my life.
I have often wondered what it would be like to experience the freedom of choosing my own class schedule. This has to be infinitely more stimulating and enjoyable. I am also aware that college will be significantly more challenging, but I have always found it easier to study for a class that interests me. I am willing to accept the fact that as long as I am in school, there will be required courses which may not engender excitement or enthusiasm; however, success should not be as difficult to achieve due to the maturity that is developing during this last year of high school. In addition, I have gained an understanding of the benefit of being well rounded. There is value in all classes taken. It helps to know that even my least favorite subject will contribute to the ultimate goal of personal and career development.
The lessons I have learned in my life from both my parents and life experiences have fully prepared me to excel in college. My college career started with me just going to school to take PE classes while neglecting my main required core classes and always pushing them aside without any urgency to succeed in finishing school. A couple of years would go by with little to no progress and lack of motivation to succeed in finishing my college required classes. Soon landing a career oriented job and finding myself dropping out of college to focus on my work career. From this point and time I would learn the importance of school and the value of finish college through my years of experience at work. This awareness of value in finishing college would motivate me to want to go back to school. Soon I would find myself at American River College counseling center. Here I was coming back to school unsure of myself and in an environment where I previously never found success in school. After meeting with my counselor I was recommended to take a college success course. This course is part of a program called the Accelerated College Education (ACE). Because I was able to learn along the years being out of school the importance of gaining an education I gained a new motivation for school, signed up for this ACE program, and enroll in the college success
College success has become a most desirable goal. However, many students struggle through college. In fact, according to the Website Ask.com, approximately 15 percent of college students receive a degree. Because I’m willing to earn a degree like many other successful students, I find that college is the stepping stone to my dream goals. I know that college is difficult, but I realize that attaining my dream of a college education will require me to understand the benefits of what I’m learning, to prepare for obstacles, to seek advice, and to create effective and reasonable strategies will help me achieve my goals.
There are many things that I hope to accomplish and do when I get older. I want to improve and accomplish different things for myself in my career that I choose, in my material goals, and spiritually. I'm looking at the year of 2009, I will be out of college and be on my feet, hopefully. As an adult, I have numerous personal goals. Most importantly, I would like to own a home. Also, I would like to pursue my interests of water-sports by owning a boat and my long love of cars by owning a sports car. Other personal interests that will affect my years after college are my love for the outdoors and the thrill of traveling to many new places throughout the world.
I began taking advanced placement classes to challenge myself, to be the best I can be. Although it was difficult to maintain good grades, practice 10 hours a week for the swim team, and working a part-time job, I enjoyed the push and the outcome I received at the end. Due to wanting to be in the Medical field, I took Honors Anatomy and Physiology in order to learn more about the human body; prepare myself for the memorization and the use of note cards. All the information felt like my head was bottled up, I wanted to enjoy my high school years, because “they pass by so fast, make the best of them” my brother would constantly say to me but failed to mention if I really wanted to do what I loved, I had to let all that go and focus on school; which became my biggest responsibility. There were times where I just wanted to take the easy way out and drop the class, but I knew no good would come from that; instead I balanced out my schedule by prioritizing my time between school, practice and work.
Being a successful student and achieving continued academic success is fundamental in order to complete an associate degree and become a successful professional. College is challenging, but it can be a rewarding growth experience and easier when setting up goals. Having educational and career goals helps students keep the focus and motivation. Besides, having knowledge of different learning styles can help students learn about themselves and increase efficiency while studying. Writing skills learned in college are also a powerful tool for both academic and career success. The campus is a great place to find tools to succeed and achieve continued academic success. It is also important to keep academic honesty as a good habit and as a value of integrity throughout college and later on in the professional environment.

It is easy to set the target but to achieve it need a lot of work and sacrifice the time and money. Strategic planning and full preparation needed to make the dream come to reality.
