Introduction
I am writing an assessment to find and understand the best ways to manage myself as a potential team leader. I will produce a questionnaire for my Colleagues to answer on the importance of time management and its relationship to causes and symptoms of Stress. I will use time and stress management techniques to help my colleagues by explaining how time management can help at work and in home life.
Time management can make life so much easier it is a tool we often overlook and not realize how much time we actually waste. Managing time effectively saves time and enables you to make better decisions about what say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ too. There are many reasons for good time management such as improvement in productivity in the workplace with setting goals and prioritizing work by putting the jobs in order of importance. This can help employees by cutting out bad habits in the work place and stopping procrastination “I’ll do it later”. This also helps with home life making it less chaotic and encourages you to plan family time ensuring time is put to good use.
My aim is to show how we can minimize stress through time management which also helps improve the team’s production and work relationships. I can give advice on how stress management help is available and how it can be obtained.

I developed a small questionnaire to see what affected my colleagues in terms of stress to determine which stress and time management techniques would be best suited. The answers were given in a rating of 1-5 with 1 = relaxed, 2 = OK, 3 = Irritated, 4 = Annoyed, 5 = Stressed

People while at work are often under psychological pressure. In the "risk group" fall supervisors and managers, people who work with clients, secretaries, salesmen, teachers and indeed, almost any job - the source of stress. There are many different parts to time management, such as procrastination, strategy, organization, expectations and being prepared. All of them contribute equally in many ways. All of the things that we have spoken about in this paper are highly recommended. The best thing to do when it comes to time management is to set a strategy, become organized and do your best to avoid procrastination. When you manage your time make sure you include the following; studying, sleeping, eating, relaxing and other necessary things. No matter what our circumstances are, we can all use some time management skills in our lives.
Identifying the symptoms of stress is important in an effort to maximize productivity. One way I intend applying this skill is by spending time with the crew. When coming into work I intend on spending a significant time on the watch deck to become more personable with the crew. This will allow me to be better in tuned with what is going on in their lives so I can be better able to identify stress markers. This will benefit both me and the crew. By knowing what is triggering my stress I can apply methods to mitigate it. One example is if I was suffering from emotional stress I would attempt to “connect emotional symptoms to their sources” and “attempt to let go of event beyond my control” (Orioli 70). In the workplace, time management is an important factor in everyone’s day-to-day work. If a person’s time is well managed, it is possible to achieve a greater amount in a shorter space of time. How effectively people manage their time has a major influence on aspects of their working lives and their personal lives. Effective time management can have a hugely positive effect on a person, it can lead to a focused and disciplined mentality, giving a higher level of productivity, greater efficiency and an all round positive attitude in life. This benefits the individual, their team, the company they work for and also their friends and family. An example of this is an employee who prioritises their jobs at the start of the day; this gives them a structured day and ensures they have time to complete all of the important jobs. However, if time is poorly managed it can lead to inefficiencies, work overload and added pressure, this could eventually lead on to other issues such as stress.
PMBOK guide defines TM as the “Use of available time and your own productivity along with the appropriate planning and management of the project schedule” highlighting the link between Time Management and productivity and its closely knit relationship to scope and cost areas. Max Wideman presents a wider definition for TM as the “function required to maintain appropriate allocation of time to the overall conduct of the project through the successive stages of its natural life-cycle, by means of the processes of time planning, time estimating, time scheduling, and schedule control.” Ultimately at it’s core however, TM is about time, its planning and control during all stages of the project. A further look into Wideman’s definition of TM by means of identifying its importance throughout the entire project life-cycle (Initiation, planning, execution, controlling and close-out) is required. It is hoped that by analysing how TM tools and techniques can positively and negatively effect the different stages of the Project life cycle a better understanding of productivity, TM and project success will result.
In conclusion, workers should balancing theirs relax time and work time unless employee cannot avoid stress. This will help us to reduce the chance to get stressed and forget in 21st century’s problem. Stress in the workplace is caused by work and workload. Employees are harmed emotionally and physically by workplace stress. There are two factors of stress in the workplace which are internal and external. When you are relaxing at home, just forget the problems at work. This is the only time you have to relax and being peaceful. Lastly, stress always brings negative attitude and affects your health, so relax as long as you can.
