“Look at your Man, now look at me…sadly he isn’t me” This is an Old Spice Advertisement that targets women who purchase female hygiene products, like shampoo and body wash, for their “man.” Isaiah Mustafa is a former practice squad football player and is the only actor appearing in this advertisement. This well known African American football player is very attractive and may have a sexual appeal towards women. This aberration is different since one always sees a white folk as the dominant character. “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like” Ad was shown during the super bowl in February of 2010. Mustafa assumes that all women viewing the ad would want to date a man like him. He states in the picture Ad, “look at your man, now look at me… sadly he isn’t me,’’ He is putting down the women who try to save money by buying a nominal number, most of the time just one shampoo product, and Mustafa is trying to convince them to buy male scented shampoo for their husband. However, the actual audience targeted in this Ad is men. He indirectly tells men to stop using feminine products because that makes them less of a man. By buying Old Spice, however, their manhood is returned because they smell like a man. Also, Mustafa wants to peer pressure the man watching the commercial to tell their wives to stop buying them “lady-scented.” He compares himself a lot to the other man viewing the commercial by saying “Look at your man, now look at me… Sadly he isn’t me.” With this sentence, Mustafa can get some serious reaction from the stereotypical Macho-Man because these men do not like to be compared to other successful and handsome men. Therefore, Mustafa reaches his goal of trying to persuade men to buy Old Spice
