Everyone knows it is “i before e, except after c,” but Dirty South Comedy Theater wants to see if that rule stands when you add cold brews to the mix. Relive the glory you felt in 3rd grade after spelling words correctly but now you can drink!

In the age of computers, smartphones and spellcheck, adults aren 't often asked to utilize their spelling skills. With the Scripps National Spelling Bee starting next month, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Humanities department and Flyleaf Books provided a way for adults to experience the thrill of the competition Friday night. There 's no “drinking game” style requirements, but competitors were encouraged to grab a cold brew. Fifteen competitors were announced fifteen minutes before the Spelling Bee began, with several people being pulled from the audience. Murawski had coached Susanna the past four years, which helped her land a spot in the Scripps National Spelling Bee last year.

The thing that is so appealing about spelling bees is that no matter how old you are, chances are it has been a part of your upbringing. Putting an adult spin on a fun, childhood memory was the main idea behind the event.

“Kids are better spellers than adults. They don 't have as much upstairs, so they have vast amounts of empty memory space they can fill, of words,” said Murawski jokingly.

In response to her father 's comment, Susanna just laughed.
