In A short and Easy Method of Prayer, Madame Guyon touches on how one can accept all things God through prayer. Through the simple steps of meditation and reading accompanied by meditation, Madame Guyon teaches the reader how to use those steps to have a relationship with God through the simple steps of meditation and reading accompanied by meditation. Madame Guyon was one of the few female religious leaders in the 17th century France as she was a voice of Quietism and to have a relationship through prayer. The two key biases in this book is reviewing it from a 21st century mind set and this is just one of the many different sources of the religious text from this time period. Catholics Quietism began with Spanish theologian Miguel De Molino, “… advocated losing one’s individual soul in God, reaching inner peace through prayer and pure disinterested love of God,” (Guyon, pg. 417). She wrote this book in hopes the women at the local convent would be able to understand there is a way to connect to God through prayer. “It is by prayer alone that we are brought into his presence, and maintained in it without interruption,” (Guyon, pg 1). Throughout Madame Guyon’s book, she listed out simple steps one can take upon them selves to complete, so they can also have a relationship with God. “There are two ways of introducing a soul into prayer, which should be pursued for some time; the one is meditation, the other is reading accompanied by meditation,” (Guyon pg. 1). Guyon wrote this book because she wanted people to be able to relate to God and have a simple written text to be able to show the readers just how great his love is.
