Sleep is very important for us humans. Our body depends on sleep and rest. If we did not sleep, our body gets very tired and longs for sleep and rest. It's what resets us everyday so we can do the same things for the next day. But it can be challenging for some kids. Most kids do sports after school and some can last a long time. Then, kids with a lot of homework can hold up a lot of kids from going to bed early. Scientists have done tests with people going with no sleep and the body does not function the same as you would with a good amount of time sleeping. It also effects your mood and school.
One major thing that you lack when you don't get enough sleep is your mood. Whenever you don't get enough sleep, your mood changes drastically. If the start times for schools changed to a later time, everybody would be happier. Most people like the sound of sleeping in on a school day. It would be good if kids got to sleep in before school. Lets say one night you get home late from a baseball game and you go to bed around 10:30, you'd have about 10 hours of sleep until you have to get up for school. Ten hours is really good for anybody who has a full day ahead of them. If you have a later start time for school, that most likely means that you will have less kids falling asleep in class in the mornings. You will be more awake and more likely paying attention. Someone who is not getting the adequate amount of sleep, will likely experience symptoms of being tired throughout the day, not focused in daily activities, irritable, stressed, and angry. For example, if a nurse is sleep deprived he/she would not be able to perform their daily duties throughout the course of the day.
