My desire to go to Florence can be summed up in Hebrews 13:21, “Equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.” I desire to go to Florence and be equipped for the call God has place on my life. I was bored by history when I was fourteen years old; then I happen to surrender my life to Christ that year. I thought, “Well, I can finish studying if I go to sleep now and wake up at 2:00 A.M.”. I acted on these thoughts, but performed poorly on my freshmen midterms and found myself on my knees crying out to God to receive his forgiveness for my biggest weakness, procrastination. My number one challenge would not be traveling, homesickness,too much luggage, or interesting new bathrooms, but it will probably be time managing my studies. Though my challenge of time management is real, my God is strong. After midterms week, God led my professor, Dr. Mueller, to help me with time management in order to spend more time studying (being discipled) rather than discipling, so I am able to more make disciples in due season. To prepare for the trip, I will do previous studies on the places and the information we will learn that I might retain and have time to breathe and enjoy learning while I am there. Furthermore, my challenge is procrastination, but with the assistance of God, I will strive to manage my schedule ahead of time and be enabled to soak in the knowledge during the four weeks in Italy. 3. How do you think studying abroad will impact you
Fifth grade will go down in history as my worst year in school, but definitely the most beneficial. From sixth grade on, I receive nearly all A’s in my course. The occasional high B haunted me on rare occasions, but for the most part I worked to the best of my ability to achieve my goals. Throughout the years after middle school I began to realize that school was not what defined me. I had leaned so heavily on the praise I received from getting A’s that I began to think it was my doing and not the Lord’s. As a follower of Christ, I find that I cannot succeed in what God wants me to without utilizing the strength He has given me. When I do decide to walk a different path, I am constantly reminded of the incredibly weak and depressing sinner I am without Christ. While Mrs. Sera is the one who pushed me to want to reach my full academic potential, Christ is the One I utilize in achieving this. Of course there are days where I am tired, busy, and just plain lazy, but my God is stronger, more attentive, and more active than I will ever be. In Going Abroad, William Stowe suggests that Europe is a space in which higher class and non-essential laborers can “prepare for or advance their careers” (Stowe 7). As a continent with a vast collection of cultural goods, Europe conflicts with the barren American landscape. Have we become negligent in simple acts we have become accustomed to carrying out? When an act becomes trivial to us, we become careless and look for the easy way out. This applies to our relationship with God, with our family members, and even with our schoolwork or our job. Procrastination is another trait related to the sin of sloth. This is a major temptation in a scholars’ regular workload.
Learning about new cultures is my favorite thing to do. I interact well with others and enjoy networking with new people. I have found that my ability to meet new people is a trait that makes every visit I have taken to different countries an enjoyable visit. I wish to participate in this program because it has always been a goal of mine to study abroad. By participating in this program I hope to learn about another culture, make international contacts, and gain valuable international business skills.
Globalization is the goal of pursuing opportunities anywhere abroad which all an organization to capitalize on business functions in the countries in which it operates (Pearce & Robinson, 2011, p. 103). It is vital that an organization chose the appropriate timeframe on when and if to advance to a global arena. Study Abroad Application Essay A semester abroad serves as a central component of any International Relations education at Hendrix College; benefiting Hendrixians both personally and academically by incorporating global perspectives to our study. The educational and professional opportunities afforded by the newly-christened Cyprus program caught my attention immediately upon announcement. Studying in the Eastern Mediterranean would enrich my liberal arts experience considerably by allowing me to further both my political and photographic studies in a new, diverse environment. I believe that preparation for such an experience cannot be understood as a sum of individual skills, nor as a crash-course on Cyprian heritage and politics.
Ah, Holiday break, could of came sooner, but no one is complaining. Two weeks of doing nothing… or something? The students of MT all have some plans, but what are they? Nora McQuain, an 8th grader here at MTMS, is going to be visiting Brazil for the first time ever. She says she’ll be with her family and she’s really excited! “A new tradition I’ll be participating in, is on New Year's eve the whole city will be going to the beach and we will celebrate there.” Nora excitingly. Hopefully we’ll see some cool pictures and hear some cool memories from her once she gets back!
I feel more than honored to have the opportunity to participate in The Ailey School’s 6 week summer intensive. Over the course of those weeks, I want to work on consistency in my dancing. Since being enrolled at Towson, I have always approached class with a clean slate open to new discoveries. While this has given me a chance to explore my body and see what works for me, I find myself having a completely different class every day. My new perspective is to approach class with the intent to perform better than the day before. Taking the good from the previous class and applying it to the current class. Every class will still be different, but in a positive way. In addition, I know that in the past, I have had challenges
Upon graduating from high school, it is important for students to think about their plans for the future, whether they include additional schooling, joining the workforce, or some other activity. After, I graduate from high school in the year of 2017 I plan on attending college in the fall. I want to attend college in New York City because I am more of a city person, I want to be able to explore, but also to be successful in my life. I plan on expanding my knowledge and be able to learn more in my lifetime. Also I want to go to college to make my family proud.
As a college student I stand concerned about college education. There are many students who don’t attend college. Approximately students who doesn’t want to continue their education after high school and there are some who doesn’t finish their high school diploma. I consider college is significant in all of us life. All individuals should attend and finish their education in slightly circumstances. Education is important in life; education provide skills that benefit in daily life. Skills like reading, writing, besides many other skills human can learn from education.
I have always had full intention of going to college and graduating to make my family proud, but often I find myself wondering if it is even worth it. I always start strong and become lazy and stop trying half way through the semester mostly because I become discouraged. I have high aspirations, but want it all to come easily, which will never happen. I see family members who have not gone to college, in positions of power and then I begin to think that college is just a waste of my time. I understand it will make me a better person and give me more opportunities because that is what I have been told my whole life, but is it worth it?
Growing up in a family filled with strong, black women who had received higher education, I always knew that I wanted to go to college and be more like them when I grew up. These women include my mother, my cousins, my aunts and my grandmother - some of which have earned their master's degrees in their desired fields and are working on their doctorate. Whereas the men in our family, have gone a completely different track. My great grandfather barely finished the 3rd grade before he had to start working for his family, my father got a job straight out of high school and had only attended college for a semester, and most of my cousins have stayed at home getting jobs to help their parents. The story of why I transferred from Pacific Lutheran University starts during my freshmen year winter break, when my three sisters, my mom and I were all left in despair as my father openly cheated on my mom and left us to live with another woman. After winter break I continued to attend PLU, and achieved good grades during the spring semester, passing the first Calculus and a intermediate computer science class. Going into my second year at university, I signed up for the next level of calculus, and the next level of computer science. Classes were demanding, but my mind was focused on my family that was continuing to spiral, my little sister who was 16 at the time started using Xanax along with other things. University education was never just a simple decision of attend or not attend; it was the stepping-stone from my parents’ expectation to achieving my own life’s goals. My father was born into a poor nomadic family and orphaned at a young age. He worked hard and by the time he was in his early twenties and became the Somali Councilor to Washington D.C and a few years later Ambassador to the United States. I learned that anything is possible epically since I have access to what he didn’t. Why do I want to go to college? My answer is simple i want to help people, I want to legally help people and get them to a better place in life make positive change, and make my dreams and my parents hard work come true. But, going to college is not just for me. It is so I can live to expectations my older siblings and parent’s dreams through me as they had to work for us to be where we are now.
