Workplace Diversity, Essential? As business globalization continues to explode throughout the world, so must corporate initiatives in diversity and inclusion. Moreover, much research has proven that workforce diversity supports corporate innovation and contributes to a strong competitive advantage. Many companies understand this advantage and have established themselves at the top of the list by including a diverse representation in executive and board member positions, communicating diversity expectations, and including family friendly benefits. In order for our company to become one of those organizations, presented is a comparison and analysis of the same areas with identification of where we fall short and steps necessary to begin moving towards true diversity inclusion. Diverse Workforce Advantages Many organizations struggle to attract, hire, and retain top performing individuals who will contribute to the success and growth of an organization. According to the Journal of Accountancy, (2008) “companies with diversity programs enjoy a competitive advantage when it comes to recruiting top talent” (p. 24).
