What are the client’s strengths and how can you apply these strengths to appropriate interventions?

Romeo strengths include his desire to improve his life by coming out of his comfort zone, and he 's willing to talk to me. Romeo is a kid from the streets; he used to be a tough guy. He was very honest about his use of drugs and gang affiliation. Romeo has attempted suicide twice, and he is currently thinking about suicide again.

Romeo strengths also included his willingness to talk about his use of drugs, being homeless, dropping out of school, having no job and a lack of ambition. Romeo: Well, I want to make a change in my life.

Rhonda: I can hear it in your voice you sound like you are ready for change? (Sustaining Techniques)
Romeo: Yes, I’m tired of not having a place of my own to stay. I want to get help for myself to stop from feeling suicidal. I would like to go to rehab for my use of street and prescription drugs. Most of all I want to get out of the gang and have a normal life.

Rhonda: You seem ready for a change in your life! You’re concerned with a couple of different issues. What connections do you see between all of the issues you are having? (Elaboration)
Romeo: Yes, I’m tired of the way that I’m living. As I mentioned the drugs make me feel better, and the gang is kind of like family to me, and some of the gang members let me sleep on their chair.
Rhonda: What connections do you see between your lifestyle and the overall way you feel about yourself? (Elaboration)

This is reflected in media and music. Thus making it okay to wear your gang colors and putting fear into the community if they wear your colors or in the wrong neighborhood.

Some goals that Romeo and I need him to work toward improving his self-esteem and become confident in himself. In this world, we all have a purpose and Roman had not found his purpose yet so I would help to figure out who he is and what direction he wants to take. Romeo finding his purpose will help him cope with depressed and expressing his feeling and emotions. “Goals represent the desired outcomes of the working relationship agreed upon by the clinician and client” (Murphy 212). I would help Romeo enroll in a GED program and treatment program for drug use. I would aid him in finding a job, so he can have money to support his self.
