When you hear of historical figures that “conquered” a certain time period, you think of barbarians, spartans, or other gruesome, battle-tested men. While William I, the King of England and Duke of Normandy, was also nicknamed the “Conqueror”, he achieved success reigning over his time period in very different ways than that of Genghis Khan or Alexander the Great. Regardless of his path to success, William I played a huge part in the religious evolution of England. Using his advantageous leadership position, William I was able to be prosperous for many decades. He became the Duke of Normandy at the ripe age of eight years old, and pandemonium ensued almost immediately. Throughout his early years of power, a “breakout of authority” occurred all throughout Normandy, leading to many future problems that William would handily deal with (William I 2). Although he had many people seeking to overthrow him, William had support on his side, and was able to use the adversity he faced to his advantage. At a very young age, William was learning the tricks of the trade, and became very logical and rational in making decisions whether they be military or political based. His vigor and knowledge were truly no test for any man that got in his way. The way in which he carried himself, and from such a young age, is mesmerizing on its own, but the fact that he was able to be involved militarily, politically, and religiously is a feat alone. From altering the religious nature of multiple countries, to defeating every rebellion and army that stood in his way, William was an undeniably good leader. No matter what task was put in front of him, William refused to back down, and that is why he is remembered today as one of the most prosperous rulers of all
