Who is the Real Monster? In the novel Frankenstein written by Mary Shelley, she writes about a scientist by the name of Dr. Victor Frankenstein who was a crazy mad scientist who studies the dead. He decided to resurrect the dead and play the role of God by creating a monster and bringing it back to life. He spends his whole entire life concentrating on this goal which causes Victor to leave behind his friends and family. The Monster is confused on why he is brought back to life and begins to create chaos and tragedy. Victor’s life began to collapse and fall apart little by little and begins to despise his creation and no longer take interest in the monster. “The blood flowed freely
Victor stated in the novel, “a new species would bless me as its creator and source; many happy and excellent natures would owe their being to me. I might in process of time, renew life where death had apparently devoted the body to corruption” (pg. 52). This quote portrays the reason why Frankenstein created the monster. At first, Victor views his monster as a beautiful creation but later when he first lays eyes on the monster he starts to fear and rejects the monster and no longer took interest in the
The Monster starts to take action and starts to go crazy/ berserk and later on in the novel begins to kill Victor’s family. The Monster kills Victor’s little brother William out of jealously and confusion. The quote on page 58 states,” William is dead! That sweet child, whose smiles delighted and warmed my heart, who was so gentle, yet so gay. Victor he is murdered!” This quote shows that Victor is starting to feel repent, remorse, and guilt for the death of his brother and that he should be held responsible for his death. The character of Justine is falsely accused of the murder of William and she gets executed because of this. The quote on page 81 says,” The weight upon my spirit was sensibly lightened as I plunged yet deeper in the ravine of Arve,” which probably meant that Victor feels at fault for Justine’s death and that he should be held responsible for her death. Because Victor created the Monster he should be held accountable for the murders of both Justine and William. The Monster is not the actual monster of the novel. Victor is the true monster because he was the individual who created the monster that was responsible for the murder of his brother William and
