If the world were a sunflower, children would be caterpillars, adolescents would be the cocoons, and adults would be the busy monarch butterflies fluttering from petal to petal collecting nectar. Before you know it, the sixth-week mark has arrived and there is one less butterfly hard at work in the meadows of the universe. Often, we hear how short life is, and that we shouldn’t take any of life’s experiences for granted. Learning to listen effectively and consciously to others and yourself are just two ways you can achieve happiness. Undoubtedly, people strive for contentment, and by adding more positivity within your own internal dialogue, you can begin to truly love your authentic self, broken antennae and all. If only mindfulness was as effortless as performing an instinctual task, instead it’s quite challenging to obtain due to people’s emphasis on negativity. To further explain, “mindfulness means [to] maintain a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment” (“What is Mindfulness,” 2015). Coming from a point of my life filled with depression, anxiety, and uncontrollable panic attacks, I have learned and grown some much as an individual. Although, I do have my off days, I usually can manage my negative thoughts well and keep up my positive in a rational way. By combating my pessimism honestly and immediately when it happens It strengthens my control over my thoughts. Furthermore, I believe I have become a mindful friend to myself by actively communicating with myself and analyzing my actions regularly. As long as I keep fluttering in the same direction and take one drink of nectar at a time mindfulness will continue to help be better myself and my relationships in the
