Throughout the world, there should be an ongoing mission to spread peace and end global violence. War has plagued the world throughout history and enables actions as heinous as slaughter and torture. Yet in the same world, more people believe in religion than not, many of whom teach the basic concept that murder is wrong. How can people justify taking the life of other humans when they are taught at a very young age that it is the worst crime to commit? With the continuous introduction of deadly technologies, it 's becoming easier and easier to kill. In some places in the world, daily bombing is normal and death has become a way of life. Moral panics arise from the thought of video games causing children to murder later in adulthood. The news is comprised of continuous clips that show shootings, terrorism, racist violence, and suicides. This “is a channel of propaganda that cannot be easily controlled by any single interest or by the promoters of any single cause” (Harbord). The world is constantly exposed to death and violence, which make it less and less surprising when a new story breaks. The Anti-war and pacifist effort that arose during the Vietnam war lost much of its momentum because the country has evolved. Virtual warzone games can seem so real to the player, it is as if they are actually on the battlefield. Somewhere, war gets confused with patriotism. Jean-Paul Sartre explains how “[he] can neither seek within [himself] the true condition which will impel [him] to act, nor apply to a system of ethics for concepts which will permit [him] to act” (Sartre 6). Usually, action in the form of patriotism centralizes around the idea that one must go to battle, fight for freedom, or at the very least support the troops who are doing so. It is ingrained in American culture and many feel as though the circumstances of murder are out of our control. People believe that they “cannot count on men whom [they] do not know by relying on human goodness or man’s concern for the good of society” (Sartre 5). People like to see themselves as inherently good, and advocate for fighting overseas to free oppressed people around the world. However, this only leads to more war, animosity, and death that our culture is already susceptible
