Single Parenting

As LeBron James said, “For me, already being part of a single parent household and knowing it was just me and my mom, you'd would wake up times and hope that the next day you'd be able to be alongside your mother because she was out trying to make sure that I was taken care of. But all I cared about was her being home” (http://quotes.lifehack.org/quote/lebron-james/for-me-already-being-part-of-a/). This is a proof of how single parenting takes a lot of family time from the parent and their children. This is issue is shown in The Color of Water by James McBride, as James and his siblings had to go through the tough times of being raised by a single parent. Most children’s lives are brutally compromised in single parent homes due to the restriction of assets, the outcome of negative behaviors, and the obliteration of having a two parent family.

A single parent is a parent who has to raise a child or children without the help of a partner or a spouse. According to a recent research, over twenty- five percent of children in the United States live with a single parent and these situations are a result of divorce, death of a parent, or an adoption by a single parent (“Single Parent Families”). Also, 82.2% of custodial parents are mothers, and 17.8% of custodial parents are fathers (Wolf). Historically, single parenting through divorce is something that did not happen a lot as it does right now in our societies today. She did not know which side she should go on, leading her to fall for peer pressure and getting expelled from school for having illegal weapons and drugs. In order for children of single parent homes to be well disciplined and matured, parent should be able to create some time off their working schedule to spend with their family.
