What is abortion? Often defined as the immediate termination of a pregnancy in its first stages. There’s a saying, “the earlier the pregnancy the easier the abortion.” (gynmed. Par.1) There are so many different reasons as to why women get abortions, but to me they’re just excuses. No reason is legitimate enough to kill an innocent child. Some argue that the child isn’t a human yet or has yet to develop at the time of termination, others argue that they have been raped and can’t bear the stress of keeping the child. And others are just too irresponsible to take care of a child. (Flanders Par.1) Even so these reasons still aren’t valid enough.
A common factor for all those who are pro-abortion is that they believe the embryo or fetus has yet to be developed, so therefore it isn’t a human. In an article written by Nancy Flanders explains how pro-abortionists feel about the fetus,

In most states abortion is legal as early as the first 6 weeks of pregnancy. Which is when a heartbeat can first be detected through a transvaginal probe. (Abortion Laws Par. 1) Every state has their own abortion laws. For example, in ‘North Dakota, abortions are prohibited after 6 weeks you can’t get an abortion. In Arkansas after 12 weeks’ abortions are prohibited, Arizona has theirs at 20 weeks any abortions passed that are prohibited.’ (Abortion Laws Par. 3) As much as I am against abortion it does make sense that the government realized that at a certain point in a woman’s pregnancy, abortion just shouldn’t be an option anymore, because after 24 weeks a fetus can survive on its own outside of the mother womb, so terminating it doesn’t quite make sense. Over the course of the last century, abortion in the Western hemisphere has become a largely controversial topic that affects every human being. In the United States, at current rates, one in three women will have had an abortion by the time they reach the age of 45. The questions surrounding the laws are of moral, social, and medical dilemmas that rely upon the most fundamental principles of ethics and philosophy. At the center of the argument is the not so clear cut lines dictating what life is, or is not, and where a fetus finds itself amongst its meaning. In an effort to answer the question, lawmakers are establishing public policies dictating what a woman may or may not do with regard to her reproductive rights.
There is no excuse to killing an innocent child and abortion is giving people an excuse. Before a child even has the chance to be born and live, their life is taken away because of the mothers decision. There are so many alternatives to abortion. When a woman doesn’t want to keep her baby or does’t have the ability to take care of it, abortion shouldn 't be the first option taken. There are many options out there to be taken like “Abortion alternative clinics [that] offer services such as adoption referrals, free pregnancy testing, crisis pregnancy counseling, post-abortion counseling, and homes for pregnant women” (Chittom & Newton, 2015). With that many options to choose from, why would a woman choose to take the abortion route? When the abortion is in consideration, many women admitted they were not fully educated on the topic. Chittom and Newton (2015) wrote: “these heart wrenching stories describe the violent reactions these women have had to seeing images similar to what they had done in the process of killing their own babies”. After the abortion process was over, many women were shocked and mortified at how the abortion was preformed. For many, only guilt and sorrow remain since the damage was already done. Thou shalt not kill; one-tenth of what may arguably be the most famous guidelines of morality in the western culture, and also the main driving force for pro-life advocates. The argument supporting their beliefs typically starts with the premises that a fetus is a person, and to destroy or to kill a person is unethical. Therefore abortion, the premeditated destruction of a human being, is murder, and consequently unethical. I deny the fact that the fetus, what I will refer to as an embryo up to 22 weeks old, has the right to live. The opposing argument is invalid because a fetus, although perhaps a part of human species, is not formally a person. This leaves it simply to be a part of the woman?s body, whose fate lies solely in the hands of the pregnant woman alone, no different from a tumor she might have. By proving this, the abortion debate then becomes an issue of women?s rights, something that is most controversial indeed. Furthermore, it is fair to question the credibility of many people against abortion because of obvious contradictions in the logic of their belief systems. The fact that this debate is relevant in modern society is ludicrous since there is a simple and plausible solution to this problem that could potentially end the debate for good, leaving both sides satisfied.
How would you feel if someone took away your ability to live? How would you feel if you were never given the chance to come into the world and contribute to the human race? These are some of the questions an individual needs to ask when considering having abortion. Abortion, in my opinion, is immoral and unjust simply because it is murder. A brutal murder of a being who has not even seen the world and a huge injustice to a helpless fetus who might have been the next Einstein, President, or the person who would find a cure to cancer. Morality says that every person has the right not to be unjustly killed. Hence, this right also apply to any unborn child. The thought of an individual killing his/her own unborn child is always lurking in the back of my mind because it’s hard to assert the harm being caused by the unborn child to the mother or to the society in general. If we say abortion is morally right, then we are against procreation and procreation is one of the major contributions of a human being to his or her society and the world at large. The act of procreation is one of the most beautiful things in the world. To make a human being, being able to watch that kid grow into an adult and actually be responsible to the society, should be a very fulfilling experience for any mother. I hereby oppose the principle of paternalism because I don’t believe it is moral to take away or destroy the life of an unborn child to save the life of the mother because there is no harm caused by the unborn child but I support the harm principle because abortion in general, causes harm to the unborn child, his future, the mother and the society. The baby in the womb can feel pain around 16 weeks into the pregnancy. To begin, a woman can “ have a surgical abortion...up to 22 weeks” (...). By this time the baby can already feel pain, and has a heartbeat at 5 weeks, the baby is a human once the egg connects to the sperm. The baby is not just a simple organism anymore, the baby has a heartbeat and is practicing breathing. Abortion is the same as murder, just because the child can stop it or have anything to say about it doesn 't change what it is. Just because the baby cannot live on it’s own does not mean the baby is not living. The baby may not be able to function on its own, but it is already developing. For instance, at three months the baby’s “unique fingerprints are now in place” (...). The baby is developing bone structure and even fingerprints. The baby is quickly developing a self identity, the baby is a growing human being just like us. There are other options for the mother if she cannot take care of the child. For instance, in the united states alone “Infertility affects approximately 6.7 million women in the United States” (...). If every baby that was aborted was given up for adoption instead, a woman could have a child to care for and love unconditionally. This way the baby at least gets a chance to live its life rather than having it taken so early. It is illegal

Pro-life supporters believe that abortion is murder and No one should be able to decide whether who lives or dies. There are two different types of abortion, a spontaneous abortion, which is also known as a miscarriage, and an induced abortion, where the embryo or fetus is purposely removed from the woman’s body. Then in the Roman Times men had total control over the procedure. “Man could give law-enforced command that his wife have an abortion, or he could punish or divorce his wife for having one without his consent” (Encyclopedia, 1995, p.43).
Women should have the right to decide whether or not they would like to have an abortion. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines abortion as; “the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus.” The idea of a woman’s right to have an abortion being taken away is merely incomprehensible.
