The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People is written in a way that, if it is acted out in everyday life, will improve not only the original reader, but everyone who is to come in contact with that individual. The seven habits are little things to be incorporated into everyday life, and easily can be with a little practice. The first habit is be proactive; simply start taking control over situations that can be controlled, and stop worrying about environmental or outside factors. Also, be sure to do this with a positive attitude. Begin incorporating words such as I can, I will, or I prefer instead of I have to, I cannot, or if only. In relation to educational leaders, majority of these practices can be utilized in every situation. The habits help by slowly incorporating positive energies and outlooks in a single individual’s life. Attitudes, whether positive or negative, rub off onto those around you, and with Covey’s habits in action, positivity will begin taking over the educational institution. These habits can help teachers find new and inventive ways to teach material to their students, principals keep their staff motivated and push troubled students onto a better path, housing departments encourage students and interact together, and advisors find new ways to approach their student’s problems or issues in a degree plan.
