Same sex marriage has been always a controversial topic. In the past centuries it used to be considered as a crime. People would be killed even if they were discovered having relations with someone of their same sex. However, in the last years people have tended to turn more liberals and less conservatives. In addition, there have been many modifications to the laws around the world in order to permit same sex marriage in some countries. In the other hand, those human beings are just showing their love, and for some of them is not even their fault been homosexual. People used to think that homosexuality was a disease or that the person who was homosexual had the choice of being homosexual or heterosexual. There is some evidence that same sex marriages were tolerated by some of the very first civilizations in the world. In Mesopotamia, they discovered some documents that prove exist for a variety of marital practices. This practice include male lovers for kings and polyandry. As a fact none of the current recorded laws of Mesopotamia contain restrictions against same sex unions. In Greece as well they describe instances of homosexual attraction and same sex relationships with no condemnation. Same sex unions existed in Rome as well. It got to a point where even Roman emperors would practice same-sex relations. Roman statesman Cicero also documented legal rights of an individual within the same sex marriage. However, when the years past sexuality, not just homosexuality, came under attack from a growing religious belief. They believed that sex was meant to be only for the production of children. I asked him what does he thinks about same sex marriage and or relationships. He replied to that question with a smile and saying, “I believe that those persons are really confused, they are acting against the will of God and in an unnatural way.” After that question I asked him about the new ideology that Pope Francis is trying to apply to the Catholic Church. The one that said that we need to accept every human being. And he replied “Changes always implicate risks, I believe that Pope Francis assume a high risk saying that we need to accept everyone no matter if they like boys or like girls. He also created an enormous debate inside the Catholic Church, because many of us did not knew how to interpret his words.” After those two questions I asked him if he would welcome a gay couple to his temple, to what he replied “Of course I would, we all need to find our way to salvation, and if they are trying to get close to God I would welcome them in my temple. The love that God has for humanity is huge, and the capacity he has to forgive our sins is even bigger”.
