Same sex marriage has been always a controversial topic. In the past centuries it used to be considered as a crime. People would be killed even if they were discovered having relations with someone of their same sex. However, in the last years people have tended to turn more liberals and less conservatives. In addition, there have been many modifications to the laws around the world in order to permit same sex marriage in some countries. In the other hand, those human beings are just showing their love, and for some of them is not even their fault been homosexual. People used to think that homosexuality was a disease or that the person who was homosexual had the choice of being homosexual or heterosexual. However, Scientifics had proven that …show more content…
There is some evidence that same sex marriages were tolerated by some of the very first civilizations in the world. In Mesopotamia, they discovered some documents that prove exist for a variety of marital practices. This practice include male lovers for kings and polyandry. As a fact none of the current recorded laws of Mesopotamia contain restrictions against same sex unions. In Greece as well they describe instances of homosexual attraction and same sex relationships with no condemnation. Same sex unions existed in Rome as well. It got to a point where even Roman emperors would practice same-sex relations. Roman statesman Cicero also documented legal rights of an individual within the same sex marriage. However, when the years past sexuality, not just homosexuality, came under attack from a growing religious belief. They believed that sex was meant to be only for the production of children. After that, every sexual indulgence of any kind inside or outside the bonds of marriage were prohibited by Christianism, Judaism and Islam, with the most severe condemnation of homosexuality, especially for …show more content…
I asked him what does he thinks about same sex marriage and or relationships. He replied to that question with a smile and saying, “I believe that those persons are really confused, they are acting against the will of God and in an unnatural way.” After that question I asked him about the new ideology that Pope Francis is trying to apply to the Catholic Church. The one that said that we need to accept every human being. And he replied “Changes always implicate risks, I believe that Pope Francis assume a high risk saying that we need to accept everyone no matter if they like boys or like girls. He also created an enormous debate inside the Catholic Church, because many of us did not knew how to interpret his words.” After those two questions I asked him if he would welcome a gay couple to his temple, to what he replied “Of course I would, we all need to find our way to salvation, and if they are trying to get close to God I would welcome them in my temple. The love that God has for humanity is huge, and the capacity he has to forgive our sins is even bigger”. Another interesting question I made to him was that if he think that the Catholic Church will accept same sex marriage one day. He answered “I do not like to mess with the future, but according to the Bible that would be completely impossible.” For last I asked him if in his personal opinion he was against or
Legalizing gay marriage has been a controversial topic in the past few years. In my opinion, gay people should be allowed to get married because it is a civil right. It shouldn 't matter what gender they prefer because they 're still regular people. Making gay marriage illegal, is the same as taking away someone 's freedom and civil rights. That is unethical and completely awful. There 's no harm being done by letting two people who are in love with each other get married. However, many religious fundamentalists are against this and believe gay marriage is wrong and needs to be stopped. Homosexual couples should have the right to get married because it 's a civil right and their sexual preference doesn 't make them any less human.
For years the Catholic church has not accepted the idea of homosexuality in the church, not until recently has the Vatican and many other Catholic denominations accepted homosexuality. In this quote from Pope Francis he explains that only God is to judge someone on the kind of person they are not on their sexual orientation. “If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge? We shouldn't marginalise people for this. They must be integrated into society.” (Pope Francis) Just this quote is a huge leap forward for the Catholic church and their modernization.
From this experience, I felt that the Pope was an exemplification of the closest human being to God. Everything he said gave me the same feeling that I get when I read the bible, except this happened in reality instead of my imagination while reading the bible, which magnifies the intensity for my love of God even more.
It was said that in the Greek millenium “ .. male attachments are presented in an honorific light, through there were always some skeptics. But for many biographers, for man not to have had a male lover seems to have bespoken a lack of character or a deficiency in sensibility.” Homosexuality was accepted and even encouraged, it was seen as very manly and noble. Men would gain acceptance throughout their society if the were known to have been with a male lover. Many philosophers such as Plato, believed homosexuality was acceptable. He wrote that he understood other philosophers views on this topic but did not completely agree with their views. He himself was Gay which changed his philosophy about it, he would write from his perspective of it. In Greek society young men were encouraged to be with older men so they could learn from them, and then in the future could help guide other young men. This philosophy of guiding younger men was so that the society around them could appear as a stronger and well put together community.
Same sex marriage may seem, to some, a crazy idea as marriage in this country is built on the foundation of a man and a woman marrying, but Sullivan points out that until recent centuries marriage was a contract into which a woman entered so that she would be controlled by her husba...
.... However that all changed when Christianity became the empires official religion, so in accordance with Theodosian code gay marriages in the empire were outlawed and anyone in a pre-existing gay union were to be killed. During the Ming dynasty in China males would bind themselves to other males through complex ceremonies, females would do the same. There is an old Chinese story from the early Zhou dynasty titled, “Pan Zhang & Wang Zhongxian” were two men fall in love and get married, and there union is widely accepted by their community. Many other western cultures, other than the romans, had little problem with gays. The Greeks had many people who would practice same-sex love, thought they were commonly considered temporary. In more recent years, late 1800’s-early 1900’s, is when homosexuals started coming out of the woodwork again and making themselves known.
The issue of gay marriage needs little introduction as it is one of the most widely contended and discussed topics in the United States of America. While the issue is relatively recent one has to question why this is even an issue to begin with. The Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the Constitution guarantees a right to same-sex marriage. Arguments come from both religious groups, as well as secular focused sources. Reasoning against gay marriage ranges from religious immorality, to the idea that giving gays the right to marry would support minoritarianism (giving minority special privileges and advantages in either a legislative or societal capacity). There are countless arguments besides those mentioned, few of which have any substantial grounds to stand on. Gay marriage causes no political or communal grief, except for those who strongly oppose it now. Even for those people gay people exist either way. Whether they are married or not will not change that and their lives will not be dramatically changed from it. Gay marriage has no valid reason to be outlawed and there are plenty of reasons to allow it.
The earliest western documents depicting homosexuality came from ancient Greece and Rome where same sex relationships were a societal norm and very common. These relationships did not replace marriage between a man and a woman; rather, they occurred before and alongside marriage. They were based on emotional connections or physical attractions and valued as a means of population control (The Homosexual Theme, 2005). Shortly after, beautiful odes began to be written in Persia and Arab lands to wine boys who served men in taverns and shared their beds in the evening.
Marriage, for years has been argued that the rights to it or strictly only between a man and a women. Both sexes are assumed to marry someone of the opposite sex. What if, however, an individual wanted to marry someone of the same sex? Why is this debate so heavily heated amongst individuals? Is it that religion is a large structure base that those in society are guided by? Or is it that individuals do not understand that marriage is a union between two individuals who are in love? Whatever the case may be, there is always someone who has to argue that homosexual marriage is “wrong.”
For decades people have struggled with their feelings of homosexuals. Homosexuality used to be something that a person hid. If a person was gay, they would do almost anything to make sure that no one found out. If the public found out about a person being homosexual, they labeled that as being sick or twisted. They were also, at times, presented with rude comments about how they chose to live their life. However, times are changing and while still being presented with discrimination more and more people are letting their gay status be known to the world. Not all people support the idea of a man or women spending their lives with someone of the same sex. Both politics and the public are at a stalemate with their own beliefs of how the situation showed be handled. As time goes on though people are becoming more and more accepting of homosexuality, which was a huge taboo about forty years ago. Society has become used to the idea and reality of homosexuality and allowed it grow in every community. They have even started debates to allow same sex couples the same rights and freedom as any other couple in the country. While not all people agree with this movement the numbers of people who do show support is growing over the years.
An argument is sound when it is valid and has all true premises. The legitimacy of the first premise depends on what context it is taken in. If taken in its individual sense, that gay people just by themselves cannot naturally have biological children, then the first premise stands some contradiction. However, gay people can have babies through natural processes like insemination or adoption. There are a large number of orphans who need the essentials of life, including but not limited ...
Homosexuality dates back to times when even before the bible was being written. Some examples of homosexuality references in the bible are in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13, and Romans 1:26-27. The bible, however, does not state anything about 2 women being together. The reason for this is because at the time, men usually married more than one woman (this is still happening, as it is a cultural normal for some cultures). In many cultures it is unacceptable to be gay.

In recent years, same-sex marriage has become a more controversial topic on whether it’s right or wrong. People should not feel coerced to agree with something they believe is wrong; clearly, same-sex marriage is immoral and unnatural. Many complications come with same-sex marriages including financial pressures, social pressures, moral pressures, and health risks.
