Romeo and Juliet Persuasive Essay Romeo and Juliet is a tragic story about a pair of star-crossed lovers whose demises were unexpected to most. However, their deaths were a result of their impulsiveness. It caused their problematic marriage, Romeo’s preventable death, as well as Juliet’s preventable death. Firstly, Romeo and Juliet’s problematic marriage was a result of their impulsiveness. In Verona, the Capulet-Montague feud was infamous: even the servants loathed each other. Therefore, Romeo and Juliet knew of the consequences their marriage would entail since their families dislike each other. Yet, they still took that risk and got married. Afterwards, their secret marriage caused a big problem for Juliet. Lord Capulet was unaware of Romeo’s problems arose when he got banished for avenging Mercuito by murdering Tybalt. His decision to murder Tybalt was not entirely thought through. In fact, after Romeo kills the Capulet, he exclaims that he is ‘fortune’s fool’ (73) line 132. Additionally, his banishment certainly contributed to his death because it kept him away from Verona and Juliet. If he hadn’t gotten banished, he would have been aware of the plan the Friar and Juliet had created. Unfortunately, Romeo wasn’t informed of the plan, and after he heard about Juliet’s death, he sincerely believed she died. Balthasar, who told Romeo of Juliet’s ‘death’, didn’t want to leave Romeo unaccompanied because he believed that he looked ‘…pale and wild and do import Some misadventure…’(116) lines 28-29. Balthasar’s suspicions were valid because Romeo decided to take his life. He did not stop to ask how she died, or what Friar Laurence has to say about her death. Romeo decided, in the spur of the moment, that his only solution to deal with Juliet’s death was to kill himself. Romeo, as a young adolescence, your brain is not fully developed, which may lead to regretful decisions. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, teens have a “tendency to act on impulse -without regard for risk.” Therefore, you may not see how irrational this idea is; although, you will when it is too late. Also, Friar Lawrence has devised a plan that reunites you and your Juliet. His plan is to fake Juliet’s death, steal her away in the night, and hide the two of you from your families so that you may live happily ever after. When you die in a matter of hours, Friar explains to both houses how the plan went wrong starting with how he gave Juliet a sleeping potion and he claims he, “intended for it wrought on her the form of death.” He continues to say, “Meantime I writ to Romeo that he should hither come as this dire night to help to take her from her borrowed grave.” Finally he pleas that, “Friar John was stayed by accident, and yesternight returned my letter back.” In my ghostly form, I witnessed him explain the unfolding of these events. Romeo and Juliet, who are members of the two rivaling families of Verona, fall in love at a Capulet party. These star crossed lovers overcame many obstacles, but their doomed love eventually led them to death. Romeo is most to blame for the tragic ending of Romeo and Juliet, because he does not think carefully about his actions before he acts, he is too passionate, and is extremely persuasive.
The two were too young to be married. Juliet wasn’t even thirteen before she got marriage. Maybe the two did not fully love each other. Maybe they were just infatuated with each other. One of the reasons the feud between the Capulets and the Montagues is to blame for the tragic deaths of Romeo and Juliet is because it forced them to hide their love. When Romeo and Juliet met at first they didn't know what family each belonged to and fell in love with each other but once they found out they knew they had to hide their love. Juliet tells Romeo “...The orchard walls are high and hard to climb, And the place death, considering who thou art If any of my kinsmen find thee here” (2.2.62-65). This quote shows that Juliet's family would not accept Romeo to be with her and that's why they had to hide their love or else Romeo would get killed.

If Romeo had not been banished, Romeo and Juliet would continue living a happy life together. Benvolio witnessed the entire fight, the authorities came, Lady Capulet wants Romeo dead which is completely blowing things out of proportion, and in the end, poor Romeo is banished even though he was defending himself and trying to get justice for his best friend’s heinous death. Lady Capulet states, “Benvolio is part of the Montague family. His loyalties to the Montagues make him tell lies. He’s not telling the truth. There were twenty Montagues fighting in this awful riot, and together those twenty could only kill one man. I demand justice. You, Prince, are the man who can give me justice. Romeo killed Tybalt. Romeo must die” (3.1.153). This proves that because of Tybalt’s actions, Romeo was punished, and unfairly banished from Verona. Only one can imagine what it must feel like to be banished from their love, from their family, from everyone. This fact led to their death. This was not the end of Tybalt’s wrong doings however. When Romeo announces he’s going back to see juliet, Balthasar begs him not to go. He beseeches him to “have patience” because “[his] looks are pale and wild and do import/some misadventure” (5.1.27-29). Romeo looks “pale and wild”, because of his anguish. Balthasar understands this isn’t a good sign, and he begs him to wait before he acts. He doesn’t want Romeo to go on a “misadventure” and hurt himself. Balthasar’s observations show that he is aware of Romeo’s nature. If Romeo waits, he can think everything through and make the safest decision. However, Romeo is devastated, and will act on the first instinct that enters his mind. The Prince decides to banish Romeo for killing Tybalt. He announces that Romeo should “hence in haste,/Else, when he is found, that hour is his last” (3.1.204-205). If Romeo is seen in Verona, “that hour is his last”. This establishes that a potential consequence of Romeo returning is death. Romeo disregards the potential of execution when he decides to see Juliet. Since he is so despondent, he doesn’t care about the threat of death. It doesn’t mean anything to him since he already wants to die. Romeo fights and kills Tybalt just because Tybalt slays Mercutio, despite knowing the consequence of fighting -death- he still takes it upon himself as a way to seek repentance for Mercutio’s death. He is able to restrain himself before the death of Mercutio but after his death Romeo falls to his impulsiveness and fights Tybalt. After killing Tybalt and getting banishment instead of a death sentence, Romeo refuses to look on the bright side and goes to Friar Lawrence where he says “Ha, banishment! Be merciful, say ‘death’.” (Act 3, Scene 3 line 12), this shows that he deems life without Juliet life not worth living. He then continues weep then decides to take his own life, the Friar stopped him but had Romeo stopped being so quick to make decisions he would have realised banishment is much better than death and would be rejoicing instead of weeping. Romeo hears about Juliet's “death” from his servant Balthasar he instantly decides to kill himself, he doesn't mourn his loss or even cry, he simply buys poison, rides to Verona and kills himself. Had he spoken to anyone and taken any advice he would realize that suicide is not the answer but he had his mind made in a minute, he wanted to be dead with his wife. Romeo had proposed even though he knew of the trouble brewing between their families, the Montagues and Capulets. The prior morning, Romeo was in love with another fair lady known as Rosaline. The next morning, Romeo had gone to the Friar Laurence to ask him to consent to his marriage.
