Why Recycling Should Be Mandatory

Recycling is very important worldwide and is a very crucial part of our society. Recycling should be mandatory. It benefits our wallets and purses and the world we live in. According to a 2007 survey, the amount of Americans whom recycle is somewhere between fifty-nine and sixty-seven percent (Natsu). Sometimes, times get tough in the United States, but recycling can actually save you a lot of money. Even with only two-thirds of America recycling, together we have saved more than one-hundred billion dollars to spend on other things (Palliser 16). This was achieved due to the fact that recycled materials and products are cheaper than un-recycled materials and products. This is due to the fact that creating products from raw materials uses more energy (Recycling Benefits The Economy). Recycling has been around for a very long time. It has been around longer than you, me, your parents, or even your grandparents have been alive. In terms of humans, we have been recycling since 10,000 B.C. when nomadic tribes began to settle and they had to dispose of their trash and waste (A Brief History Of Recycling). …show more content…

Honestly, there is no evidence saying it would not. If we are talking about economy, the only thing recycling can do is make it better. Recycling at a large scale would mean more recycling plants, more recycling plants mean more jobs, more jobs mean more money and opportunities for people. In the USA alone, more than one million jobs have been created, but it is estimated that if we can get even more people recycling say, seventy five percent of America recycling that number could jump to a staggering 2.3 million (Vijayaraghavan). Even if that number is inflated or blown out of proportion by twenty five percent, that would still be one million, seven hundred and twenty five thousand jobs. The creation of all these jobs would be incredible for the economy of the United States where it is getting harder and harder to find
