Throughout the world, there are many people passionate about recycling and saving the environment. While the need to increase recycling, it caused an eruption to preserve and protect their natural resources. This cause has become one of the single most important movements of this century. The true meaning of recycling is to process the used or unwanted waste products that our society produces and turn them into renewable and reusable products. The process of recycling reduces the overall cost of manufacturing new products from raw materials and it also lowers the use of energy.
Situational strategies, on the other hand, focus on a certain environment which facilitates specific recycling behaviors. The most accepted definition of recycling is “the process through which materials previously used are collected, processed, remanufactured, and reused” (Schultz et al., 1995). In terms of personal strategy, the act of recycling has a strong grass-roots support level in American households (De Young, 1989). There are many salient reasons why people should invest their time and energy into recycling efforts. First, there are intrinsic motives, like satisfaction, that give people inspiration to rec... ... middle of paper ... ...840_buys-recycled-products.html Recycling basics.
Greenhouse gases and air pollution have reached such alarming levels that it has become imperative that everyone par takes in recycling. Recycling is the process by which an item is re-used beyond its original intent. The issue over whether there should be a federal mandate to recycle has been a highly debated issue of late. Supporters of mandating recycling believe it should be required to recycle because it reduces wastes in landfills, creates a healthier environment, and reduces greenhouse gases. However, opponents to the mandate believe recycling is too expensive, and that it is an intrusion of personal liberty.
Talking about recycling is easy, actually enforcing the act is a bit harder. As I begin to become more aware of the reasons to recycle, I find myself taking the time to stop and think before I choose the garbage can or recycling bin. In its simplest form recycling is taking used products and instead of discarding them and finding ways to reuse (Strong, 1997).Though the long-term consequences of pollution is unknown, early indicators suggest consequences could devastate many life forms and pose many more health risks. By way of reducing landfills, conserving trees and reusing materials, recycling can reduce product costs and conserve our environment for future generations. Action is needed to reduce landfills in order to prolong the life of our environment.
The complicated process of recycling after products are picked up from the curb is worth the work to preserve the environment. Different products receive different treatment when it comes to breaking down the material in order to make something new. Paper is first sorted into type, weight, use, color, and whether or not it has been previously recycled (Cirabianowski, 1). From there the ink is removed, the paper is formed into a pulp, filtered to remove contaminants (What Happens to Materials When You Recycle, 2), then sprayed and rolled into flat sheets to be pressed, dried, and cut into the right size (Cirabianowski,1). Plastic is a problem because of how cheap it is to produce and the fact that it is not biodegradable.
We know that recycling conserves space in our landfills. Materials that are eventually sent to landfills have negative environmental impacts. Once the material reach the landfill, the environmental impact increase as contaminants and greenhouse emissions which are caused from the breakdown of organic material that reach into the air, soil, and water tables. Therefore it is essential to reduce the amount of material sent to lan... ... middle of paper ... ...ing, Inc. May 11, 2014. The problems with waste: “Toxics Action Center”.
But it’s not that simple. Becoming eco-friendly is more than just being “friendly” to the environment- even Rinkesh agrees that “being eco-friendly goes far beyond just turning off lights when you leave the room or separating your garbage for recycling – it is about changing the purpose of how you live.” (2016) Although a lot of human waste goes to landfills there is now a way to use this trash and turn it into energy, based on the information given by “How landfills benefit society” (2013) this statement is true. One must change his/her habits with how they dispose of waste and how they use natural resources. Every human needs to become eco-friendly to help better the future and ensure that life will be sustainable on earth in many years to come. Becoming eco-friendly could be the first step to a better and healthier
In order to understand the importance of recycling, people must first understand what recycling is, what it involves, and how it works. It is also important to know not only the effects of recycling but benefits as well. There are benefits to recycling paper, plastic, glass and aluminum; such as saving energy, saving money, reducing air pollution, and even creating jobs – which not only benefit the environment but the economy as well. Recycling is not a new concept; it has been around for years. Even in the times of war and the hard times, when famine, and widespread illness occurred, that’s when recycling of waste were made necessary because new materials were scarce.
“Recycling is the process by which previously used objects and materials are converted into something else, rather than discarded” (Reno & Alexander, 2012, p.1). Moreover, recycling is a new modern solution to reduce amount number of wasted products that technically we could reuse those useless products or materials. Recycling also helps many people for manage these waste materials and create new valuable materials from those waste materials before. There are many specific reasons that make recycling system is valuable either than not enough spaces for waste or garbage in our place or we do not have an adequate system for recycling. Especially for recycling in Bali, it caused because of tourism in Bali.
Environmental pollution has been a major concern to many stakeholders due to the related adversities that are associated with the practice. Human beings in general are well known to like having comfort and convenience at the minimum costs possible. The results of this has been the focus on the short term gains with little or no thought spared for the long term consequences of our behavior. Environmental problems are usually long term and the solution to these problems will only be realized at a higher cost if the remedy is not initiated early enough. Management of solid waste has come with a lot of challenges especially when recycling issues come to board.
