As landfill sites are rapidly filling up, and with the side effects from landfilling are affecting our environment in adverse ways. Landfills are areas of land that are used to put and compact our rubbish into the ground, you would a picture a scene of a hole in the ground with lots of bags and rubbish with seagulls picking at it. If we just put our waste into a hole, toxic elements would leak into the local environment, causing a major environmental problems. The Environmental Research Foundation of Annapolis (2003) say landfills are more like Bathtubs. Landfills have a lining preventing liquid contaminants entering the environment, However There is a problem with all bathtubs, they all leak, over the top and/or out the bottom.

People each day throw or dump their trash into our oceans. Corporations even drill for oil out in the middle of the sea in such of oil. But searching for oil out in the ocean is not the best way to get oil. Like for example when in the gulf of Mexico in 2010, the BP Oil company was digging for oil and caused one of the most disastrous oil spills to ever happen in history (Governing Disaster: The political life..). The disaster caused the water to be tainted with oil and affected many of the wildlife including various species of fish and 28 different spices of the shorebird (Large-Scale Impacts...).
People should care about our planet because the amount of litter humans produce is horrendous, driving a car is bad news, drilling for oil will kill the earth, and planting new plants can save it. The fact is many animals will die this year due to littering. People never hear about these animals because who really cares about this kind of stuff? Well, we need these animals for our eco-system to continue. The amount of phone calls the RSPCA receives about animals affected by litter each year is over 7,000 (RSPCA).
General consensus is that landfills and garbage dumps are horrible ways to dispose of garbage and no one should throw away anything that can be recycled and thus keep the earth clean and keep the garbage dumps smaller, therefor the world would be a better place by doing so. But are landfills really that horrible? Contrary to popular belief, landfills are amazing in many different ways. Witch the general population is unaware of. Landfills produce a resourceful gas that can be converted into electricity.
